Do not miss this opportunity to join a new and exciting progressive league!
The Bid to Draft league will be a dual era progressive starting play in 1950 and 1980.
The BFD puts the owner in the driver's seat like never before. Your strategy skills will be put to the test in a new way.
This league has no guaranteed draft spots or draft order......wait, what? That's right. There are no guaranteed draft spots. You will be able to
BID for your draft spots and at the same time you will be responsible for managing a salary cap and salary floor.
Here's how it works:
For the first season, every owner will have 500 BFD bucks to spend on 25 draft spots. You will submit a list of 25 bids for your draft spots. Every other owner will do the same. Once all of the bids are received, they will be ranked top to bottom. That ranking sets the order of every pick in the draft.
Example - My top bid is 50. Your top bid is 51. You pick first and I pick second.
The player selected at your draft spot assumes the amount you bid as his salary. Going back to the prior example if you select George Brett in a slot where 51 BFD bucks were bid then George Brett's salary is 51 BFD bucks. You have 500 BFD bucks to spend so use them wisely as you have to fill out a 25-man roster.
Important note: the minimum bid is 1 BFD buck and you must fill a 25 man roster. For example, you have 5 spots to fill going into the draft - you must have at least 5 BFD bucks available.
In year 2, you will have 500 BFD bucks to spend minus the total salary of all of your keepers. So, if the total salary of your keepers is 400 BFD bucks, then you would have 100 BFD bucks to spend in the upcoming draft - 500 minus 400 = 100.
500 BFD bucks is the salary cap. You cannot enter a draft over the cap. There are two ways to free up cap space: trade a player or cut a player. In the event of a trade the salary stays with the player from one team to another. If a player is cut his salary is erased and will get a new salary during the next draft.
In the event that you have 25 keepers and do not need to bid for any draft spots you are still limited to 500 BFD bucks for team salary.
300 BFD bucks is the salary floor. You cannot enter a draft under the cap without incurring a penalty. The penalty is the loss of 1 BFD buck for every BFD buck you are under the floor. Example: Your keeper list has a total salary of 260. You would lose 40 BFD bucks from your total budget. 300 minus 260 = 40. Your total budget would then be 220 BFD bucks for that draft. The salary floor will be evaluated prior to every draft with appropriate adjustments made regardless of prior draft years.
Okay, so that's the explanation for the unique feature of the league. Let's get down to nuts and bolts.
No franchises - name your team whatever you want. No politics, religion or expectorating.
Stadiums - need to be era specific. No clones. You announce the stadium of your choice along with your last draft pick.
Division alignment - Random alignment for the first year. Divisions will be randomly realigned every 5 years. You may switch stadiums with realignment.
DH - Yes for the entire league.
AAA - 1 & 1 - fictional players, cannot be used in league play, they exist only to help balance a trade if needed
Keepers - up to 25 keepers are permitted.
I/R - Yes, I/R players do not count for or against the salary cap while they are on I/R.
Trades - Yes. When you trade a player his salary goes with him. Exceeding the salary cap during the season is okay but you have to get back in line for the draft. BFD bucks
can be included in a trade deal.
Trade vetoes - During the season all trades will run through the WIS league page. Assuming a 20 team league, the threshold for vetoes will be 12 votes. During the offseason trades will be posted in the league forum. Trade objections in the offseason need to be logged within 24 hours of the trade being posted. A vote will be held and 12 votes are needed to veto the trade.
Player draft list - The commissioner will take all due care to prepare the list of available players. All league owners will have the opportunity to review the list in advance of the draft. Any mistake or omission will need to be addressed prior to the start of the draft. After the draft has started no alterations can be made to the draft list.
In the event a player was listed at two separate positions on the draft list: that player will be available for draft if the player has not been marked as taken at either position; if the player is marked as taken at either position the player will be considered unavailable to be drafted.
Loopholes - the commissioner reserves the right to close unintended loopholes in the rules with advance notice to the league.
Rule changes - can be proposed by any owner. A league vote will follow with 12 yes votes needed to implement the rule.
Bid Tie-breaker rules:
For the inaugural draft:
All teams will be assigned a number. The numbers will snake - ABBA ABBA ABBA ABBA, etc. Tie bids will be settled by the assigned number and snake. Example: the teams are numbered 1-20, there is a tie in round 1. Round 1 is on the 'A' schedule. The lower numbered team wins the tie. A tie bid happens in round 7. Round 7 is on the 'B' schedule so the higher numbered team wins the tie.
Subsequent drafts:
Tie bids will be settled by the following: W/L, Divisional Record, Head to Head then finally run differential Head to Head. The tie bid will be settled in favor of the team with the worse record. Example - your team was 90-70, my team was 81-81. We tie on a bid. My team gets the preference and picks prior to your team on that bid.
The BFD is presented by Reddtrain and Sigblend. They will share commissioner duties.
