Sad thing is, some of those AAA teams probably have more talent than the A's.

Have you seen the Aviators stadium?! The A's could play there until a new stadium is built in Vegas.

A shirt tail family member still retains partial season tickets to the A's and, once a year, he is given a deal on a suite at (what I still call) the Coliseum. My wife and I are invited so get to the stadium annually. The suite-food is substandard, but what really strikes me on my singular annual sojourn is the dilapidated condition of the cement all around the edifice. Since the Coliseum is pretty much "all-cement" it is very noticeable. I recall going there in the early 1980s to the early 90s and the place was a clean and well-lit place to watch a game. After the Raiders moved back and they built "Mt. Davis" in the outfield, the views were erased & the ballpark went downhill. I wouldn't spend a dime to buy a ticket and watch this team. The political shenanigans by the City of Oakland and County of Alameda electeds/appointees is one of incompetency and negligence. Can't wait until they go to Vegas and restore some class to this iconic franchise.

Bowie Kuhn or Bart Giamatti would have done something to prevent this going so far.

The Commissioner has enormous powers: Bowie Kuhn, whom I otherwise did not like, prevented Charles O. Finley from carrying out a fire sale of his championship team and trade away Vida Blue to Boston and Joe Rudi and Catfish Hunter to the Yankees after the '72 season.

The Yankees did get Hunter as an early free agent much later only because Finley made a technical mistake on his contract.

But the Commissioner can prevent teams from gutting their rosters to tank by not permitting certain trades or roster moves. But we had Selig, no real commissioner, just an owner, and now Manfred who has not done anything about the trend of tanking.

The Oakland fans deserve better. As for Las Vegas - players have been BANNED FROM BASEBALL FOREVER for gambling. MLB - indeed really no professional sports team - should be based in a city whose economy runs mainly on gambling.

Italyprof, the genie's out of the bottle on that. Leagues are partnered with sportsbooks now, and with the Raiders based in Vegas, and the existence of the Golden Knights, moving the A's there is logical. And the ban on gambling for players/team personnel will remain in effect. So far, the biggest story about a player getting in trouble for gambling was Atlanta WR Calvin Ridley being suspended for a season for betting on his team while injured ond out or the game in question.

In any event, something has to be done to save the A's.

The Phillies go out to Oakland in June for a three-game series. Scott Franzke and Tom McCarthy and all of the broadcast guys will be there, but they may not be able to use the visitor’s booth because there’s a possum living in the walls and shitting everywhere.

New York was there this weekend and the Mets’ broadcasters explained what’s up (via Edward Sutelan at Sporting News):

(Gary) Cohen said he was told about the possum’s activities by Wayne Randazzo, TV voice of the Angels, who had been in the booth to start the season. Randazzo was one of the Mets’ radio voices prior to his offseason move to Anaheim.

“[Randazzo] told us that in the opening game of the season, the possum, who apparently lives somewhere in the wall behind that visitors’ TV booth, made an appearance during the game in their booth,” Cohen said. “It wasn’t trying to horn in on the broadcast. He was just doing his possum things. Anyway, so they set traps for this possum, but he’s proved elusive.”

Cohen said that because the Athletics were on a road trip, no one had been in the visitors’ booth until the Mets arrived Friday. He said that when the SNY tech people came into the booth to get the broadcast set up, they “immediately were met by the stench of the possum . . . having done his business in the booth.”

The stench forced the SNY team to find another booth for Cohen and Darling, this one with a less-than-ideal seat that featured a pole obstructing Cohen’s view of the game.

Gotta adapt. We used to go to games at RFK Stadium and there was a raccoon running around down there. No big deal. You have to work in differing environments and be flexible. Plus, a creature that plays dead is the perfect mascot for a franchise like the Athletics, who have won a grand total of one playoff series dating back to the George W. Bush administration. They’ve feigned being a serious franchise for decades now. That’s why it just seems to “fit.” The team stinks and there’s a possum running around their decrepit stadium, which they started playing at in 1968.

The decay of Oakland's stadium has been going on for decades. Who can forget this pearl from the summer of 2013..."A sewage problem at the Coliseum forced the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners to use the same locker room after Sunday's game. The pipes backed up on the lower levels of the stadium during Oakland's 10-2 victory, creating a stink and pools of water in the clubhouses used by both teams and the umpires"
The place is, literally, a **** hole.

And now it’s confirmed they’re moving to Las Vegas

I realize the A's budget is laughable, but Beane hasn't been doing a very good job either lately. He got fleeced in the Murphy trade over the winter.
