The long-running Real Life Progressive League (over 80 seasons and in its second go-around) is looking for a replacement owner for the Cincinnati Reds, with 2020 being a free team, and the league running through 2023 before starting over in the 1960s or earlier. The draft is underway (2B Jake Cronenworth was selected in the 1st for the Reds), and round 2 will go on the clock on 12 June, with the season starting in a few weeks. The Reds have a solid team for 2020, and an absolutely stud starting staff for 2021 and 2022, including SPs Max Fried, Logan Webb, Pablo Lopez, Marcus Stroman, Jordan Lyles, plus three excellent relievers. Their batting is so-so in 2020, but you might consider trading to focus on supporting the juggernaut 2021 and 2022 pitching staffs (2023 looks on track for superb starters, too).
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round (which we are past). In other words, for this season's 2020 draft, some of the picks are "prospects" who started their careers in 2020 but didn't have a legitimate WIS season. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 8 AAA that you select from the 2020 season, and a DH is used in both leagues in 2020 and from 2022 on (just like real life). We have been around for over 80 seasons, and the rules are very detailed to prevent tanking and to keep it somewhat close to real life. Plus, there is a great group of owners in this 24 team league, with lots of friendly banter and plenty of trades. Drafts start after game 120, the draft moves fast, and we almost always start the new season immediately after the current World Series, so no long waits! Once we complete the 2023 season, we will restart in the 1950s or 1962.
