Player NBA Draft Credit Topic

What is the process for a player recruited and signed by a coach, the coach leaves the school and later the player is drafted to the NBA? Does the coach who originally recruited, signed and coached the player get the NBA draft credit? Does the new coach at the time of the draft get the credit? Or does no one get the credit?

A player's draft results in a small, one-time boost in the program's prestige. So it stays with the school. But it's often not noticeable, as the grade doesn't necessarily change.

The question is in regards to the Coaches resume under the overall record section noted as player's drafted. Would the coach get the credit?

IMO the only credit that really matters from the game standpoint is that program prestige. Yes, there is a little gray area where players don't show up on any coach's record section when they are drafted following a job change. But that doesn't affect any team functions, it's just an aesthetic feature.

So on the coach's resume, the players drafted does not appear after a coaching change, correct?

Correct, if I understand you.

For example, in Phelan, I left Michigan State for Kansas after season #170. My players drafted details has a gap between 170 and 175. But if you look at Michigan State's history, there are players drafted in those years that I recruited, that don't show up on my record, or the next coach's record. But their draft did boost Michigan State's program prestige a little.
