It's a cool concept. I enjoy being in this league. A few more details.
Next year you'll have the 1974 version of your franchise. Because we use real life AAA you can roster that whole franchise.
Additionally, you'll pull back 1 hitter and 1 pitcher from the 2018 version of that same franchise. And we hold a draft, in which you get to choose one hitter and one pitcher from 1907, and a few free agents from the unused 1974 teams. Draft order is determined by the real life record of your franchise in 1974. Zero incentive for anyone to tank to get better draft picks.
This year, for instance, I'm using the 1973 Red Sox. They have nice seasons from Reggie Smith, Yaz, and Luis Tiant but a bunch of mediocrity otherwise.
-But I got to bring back 2019 Xander Bogaerts at SS and 2019 Brandon Workman as a relief ace.
-And from 1906, I picked up SP Harry Howell and high quality 2B Danny Murphy in the draft.
-In that same draft, I added free agents Willie McCovey, Amos Otis, Gary Maddox, Bob Gibson, Jim Bibby, and Rick Wise.
And now I've got a division leading team with solid pitching, plus very good hitting and defense.
Next year, the year's in play are 1974 for your franchise, 2018 for your pullbacks, and 1907 for the old-timers.
If you draft the Royals, for instance, they're by themselves a mediocre team. Just three good players on offense - Mayberry at 1B, Amos Otis and Hal McRae in the outfiled. Steve Busby, Steve Mignori, and a couple of others are decent but not great pitchers.
-But then from 2018 you can pull back a top of the line 2B in Whit Merrifield and another decent pitcher.
-And then you still have the chance to pick up 8 more players in the draft.
-Free agents in the draft would include the Reds (Rose, Bench, Morgan), the Cardinals (Brock, Simmons, Reggie Smith) and others.
And you'd be able to grab one of the best 1907 hitters like Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner and one of the many great 1907 pitchers.
Easy to end up with a very strong team.
The year after, it's 1975 for your franchise, 2017 for your pullbacks, and 1908 for the old-timers, And so on....
This is when the Royals really start to shine, as the 70s and 80s starts like George Brett, Denis Leonard, Larry Gura, Willie Wilson, Bret Saberhagen, Quis and more come on board.
Pretty interesting and fun.
