There was a dev chat or other official communication, long ago, that said that coaches only affect development, not game play, except that the bench coach affects game play if your manager is ejected.
- If the above is true, what the everloving heck do the base coaches do? Do they improve your baserunning ratings among young major leaguers, and nothing else?
- Or for that matter, does the bullpen coach do anything at all? Or the major league bench coach?
- Conversely-- are there people out there who believe, preferably with some evidence, that the aforementioned official communication was by someone who didn't understand the game engine, and that coaches actually do affect in-game performance? Because I'm wondering... this would make sense in that the major league non-fielding coaches would matter for something other than spring training prospect development.
