The 16 team, long-running (over 90 seasons) Real Life Progressive League is looking for a replacement owner for the 1957 New York Yankees, and will be starting off the clock next week, with the Yankees getting the 2nd or 3rd overall pick, another 1st rounder between 9-12, and probably two of the top three picks of the 2nd! Pitching is very strong from 1959-1965, and you can likely pick either the best hitter (OF Roger Maris), or one of the two best pitchers (Milt Pappas/46.2 WAR or Claude Osteen (36.8 WAR)! AND with most likely 2 of the top 3 picks of the second round (overall numbers 17-19) you can load up there too! This team has 1,100 solid pitching IPs in 1957 (1,225 overall), with 3 pitchers on the DL, but hitting is fairly weak in 1957, so the best bet is to use all those picks to build for 1959 on.
We restarted the 3rd iteration of the Real Life League in the 1946 season, with owners getting the exact team that year, so, nine seasons later, the Yankees retain few actual Yankees, but you have Yogi for 6+ years! You also have OF Roberto Clemente early in his career (which really takes off in 1960 for 13 straight years), HOF SS Luis Aparicio for 17+ years, and a solid 2B (Daryl Spencer) for 4+ years. On the pitching side, Turk Farrell (27.6 remaining WAR), Curt Simmons (24 WAR), Hank Aguirre (20.4 WAR), Sam Jones (17 WAR), Hal Brown 14.3 WAR), and Roger Craig (13.4 WAR) give you a very good future, and that's before this draft.
This progressive league, which has 16 teams divided into four divisions, is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, for this upcoming 1957 draft, SP Milt Pappas, SP Claude Osteen, SP Bob Shaw, 1B Jim Gentile and others started their careers in 1957 -- but are not WIS eligible to play until 1958 or later (1960 for Claude Osteen and Jim Gentile!). These prospects (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) join any players you have on the DL/IR until they are WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 8 AAA that you select from a list of pre-1946 players or whoever remains unclaimed from 1957. However, we have been around for over 90 seasons, and the rules are very detailed to prevent tanking, and to keep things close to real life, such as that no players may drop below 75% fatigue, pure relievers can't start games, players can only play their position or less capable positions (so only a SS can play SS, or he can play any other position besides C, while a 2B can't play SS or C, etc.). Plus, we have a great group of owners in this 16 team league, with lots of friendly banter and plenty of trades.
Please sitemail if interested, and for further details.
