King Felix HOF committee Topic

It's Season 74. No better time to get organized. This forum will be used for our HOF voting discussions.

I've dumped career statistics and awards info for each S74 HOF candidate into this spreadsheet, as I find it far easier to navigate than the WIS HOF interface.

• In the spreadsheet, I've listed each players most common position (Pos1) and second-most common position (Pos2) across their career.

• You can also find positional breakdown of our HOF in a separate tab. Note: The game labels a ton of HOFers as 1B even if they didn't play as their primary position across their career; still, 37% of our position-players HOFers being 1B is another reason to have a committee helping sort things out.

What to do here ...

1. Look through the list of players
2. Write here which players you would recommend as locks, and others you're not quite there on but could be.

That's it!

After a day or two of discussion, I'll try to gather consensus and will announce to the league 1-3 locks that we ask everyone vote for, and mention others as strongly suggested or committee also considered Players XYZ and will revisit their candidacy next year.

Let the fun begin!

I'll get the ball rolling with an easy lock: Yoenis Alcantara. Seven-time Cy Young with a 2.59 career ERA (fifth-best in league history) who is No. 1 all-time in wins, quality starts and shutouts, and third in strikeouts. A 14-time All-Star, he tossed two no-hitters, won three Silver Sluggers (!) and caps off an incredible resume with a World Series ring.

Lock: Jordany Hechavarria, World Series winner brought an elite power/speed combination to the game scoring a phenomenal 1640 runs. His 2404 hits placed constant pressure on opponents and were supplemented with 639 stolen bases. 471 home runs and a career .521 slug contributed 1266 RBI. His 2 silver sluggers were complimented by 2 gold gloves and a strong 199 plus plays vs 3 minus across 8635 games played.

Great choice on your part, what a career!

I'm with you on Hechavarria. Was a 99 speed, 85 power guy at his peak. Nasty. Played 1B but was 75 range, 65 glove so was also good in left field. I sometimes worry about putting in all-bat, no-glove guys ... he's not that. We also got him up to 14 votes last year without this committee, so that's a good sign.

I don't want to give too many recommendations this first year, but 2-3 locks is great. Let's get some other voices in here to see where the group is at.

A couple other players I think are worth considering:

• CF Steve Cavan: We have so few CF make the HOF that he stands out. Premium defender (91 range, 93 glove, 87 arm strength) who won four Gold Gloves, three in CF (where he had 103 plus plays), two Silver Sluggers and an MVP. Can't imagine we've seen a ton of CF with 400+ HR. Had a relatively short career, so counting stats aren't as high as they would be otherwise.

• LF Cutter Langford: The only multiple-time MVP on this list, he didn't have the longest career yet slugged 556 homers and had a .884 despite playing this last four years in homer-suppressing San Francisco and Honolulu. Capable LF and plus 1B. Over 500 homers and 1,500 RBI.

SS Chris Levrault is fascinating in that, though he didn't have a long career, he won five rings while having a profile I'm not sure I've seen before: plus play at shortstop (89/84/95/87 across the defensive skills), 99 power and 78 speed. Still, can we recommend a guy with sub-.300 OBP and low counting stats?

Our HR leaders Barry Wilson, Clint Ramirez and Aroldis Campos all put up great offensive numbers but were unplayable defensively. My take is that our HOF is already overflowing with those guys. I'm not inclined to recommend them right now.

Don't see a pitcher other than Yoenis Alcantara that moves the needle for me.

I agree on CF Cavan as strongly suggested for your exact reasons. I also like mentioning Langford and Levrault as others that were considered for your valid reasons. I agree totally on the need for more position players not RF/1B/DH types.

Alcantara is a no-brainer. Hechavarria, Cavan, and Langford all look good to me as well. The only place I would differ would be on Wilson. Over 600 home runs for me is one of the automatic ins.
