Did contract distribution rules change? Topic

A guy in one of my leagues recently signed the following deal:

Yr1 - $2.9M
Yr2 - $8.7M
Yr3 - $8.7M
Yr4 - $8.7M

A $1k bonus and a mutual option on the last yr.

I don't remember the min% values on contracts but $2.9M seems way below the threshold for a 4yr deal. Am I missing something here?

  • 2-Year Contract: No single season can comprise more than 60% of the total contract value.
  • 3-Year Contract: No single season can comprise more than 40% of the total contract value.
  • 4-Year Contract: No single season can comprise more than 30% of the total contract value.
  • 5-Year Contract: No single season can comprise more than 25% or less than 10% of the total contract value
Took a while to find the above. There used to be a blog named the primer that had a bunch of useful goodies, but i could no longer find it.

Oh, it's "more than", not "less than". Yeah, I thought it was in the FAQ somewhere but couldn't find it. Forums search turned up nada either. Thanks tlow

You can always click on the yellow dot on the contract page to find that out, too. The yellow dot is basically an FAQ for each page.

Always kind of feel like that's a miss in the rules as far as I understand the intent. Some individuals are known for low balling year 1 with the intent to not return for years 2-5. Future year Caps does somewhat mitigate it. Probably can't do 5 contracts like that at the same time.
