Bricklayers' commish has confirmed that they are committed to returning to a private league.

I'm interested (just for curiosity's sake) what is motivating people to join this idea here and now, and why the thought of adding (yet another) team to your aresenal hadn't occured to you until today?

That is an interesting question

and a real simple answer...it looks like some or most of the owners on the list were already looking to possible add a team...but the problem is with the amount of openings these worlds have nobody wants to sign up and just wait it out...hince the idea of putting together a group of owners willing to jump in all at once and roll the world.

thanks for the responses so far

I think that Mike's post about "group mentality" is the clear winner, although people will undoubtedly throw out others ... to wit:

"Worlds with 10 openings take a long time to fill otherwise" - nobody said you had to join a world with 10 openings ... plenty of private worlds roll every week with single digit openings and are looking for owners

"With this group, we almost insure a quality world" - again, many quality worlds roll every week and are often in search of a replacement or two

and not to reiterate this enough, I have ZERO issue with this idea ... it doesn't affect me whether it is done or not ... and anything that sells more HBD teams (and at full price don'tcha know) is good for business

Right, I did that with Hot Stove and am giving it until January...I hope it fills though, I like the idea of an MLB themed league.

Fair enough, maybe its my fault for not seeking them out I guess, but like I said, some of the worlds I am in (Guiness for example) are more than likely not going to fill up, and they are soon ending, so I am preparing to look elsewhere and happened to see this thread....matter of timing I suppose...

I think most of us expect to get flawed teams. I, for one, like a challenge. And, in this case, I'll be competing against a group of peers who will be starting in a similar position. If I took a team in a single opening league, I'm not competing on equal footing with a dozen owners like I will be in this case.

Exactly...it is hard to jump into a league in season 10 as one of the new guys taking over a team that has been poorly managed...but if you can jump in with a group of 10-12 guys that are expecting the samething it is the next best thing to creating a new league for me...

I'm gonna be in meetings and then home...so wont be back online till tomorrow more than likely....sooooooo, if we decide on teams in the meantime all I request is that I do NOT have an AL team.... I prefer real baseball..

another good point, I suppose ... of course, not all re-builds are created equal, so I don't think you will get the Utopia of equal footing with the rest of your invaders

if I might offer one suggestion as an curious observer ... I would LOVE if your chosen world had an owner where that world is his only HBD team, and where he has won 105+ games for like 4 seasons in a row

I want to see how someone like that handles not being the big fish in the little pond anymore

True...but when worlds are created they are not all on equal footing either...I think it is more of the mentality that we are all taking into the experience.

and we have already discussed this a few pages back...I expect that to go one of two ways either the guys is going to accept the challenge of beating a good owner...or he is going to get ****** about me turning around the worst team in the league and beating him with it and quit.

Joining MLHB would be the real challenge!

I'll direct you to Happy Jack. Owner won the WS and built a friggin' monster in the first three seasons. Pretty vocal on the boards. Still wins a lot of games but not in the playoffs. Wouldn't know he was still in the league if you didn't check the standings. Also threw a hissy about the sim being fried when he didn't win his 4th WS in S4 and, in his last tirade, accused everyone of hating him because we vetoed a lopsided deal like the ones he did to build his team.

Like an earlier poster mentioned, the only small flaw I see with an otherwise great plan is that it might be better to reward worlds which are better to begin with (in the sense of not having double-digit openings to fill). Rather then filling one world that has 10-15 openings, why not get 2 or 3 worlds with 4-6 openings back up and running? Spreads the rewards around to a lot more owners that way. Why, come to think of it, I even know of a perfect example of a very deserving world: Roy Hobbs!

It should also be noted that I predicted that my old school divisionmate in HJ would leave as soon as I took the division. He did.

Hmmm....that last post was written semi tongue-in-cheek, but you know something that might really be worth considering? Let worlds 'bid' on your services. Rescue the worlds that have the highest percentage of people willing to 'pay it back'. Look for worlds that have owners willing to volunteer to join in the effort to save the next league by joining the MikeT movement. If team A needs 6 to fill, and 3 owners are willing to volunteer to take over another team in another struggling movement, then choose them over World B that needs 10 but only has 2 owners willing to help out. Something to think about.
