They have a mediocre team that got career seasons out of a lot of players, then they were exposed for what they are in the playoffs.

Wait 'til next year, Tard fans!

Who exactly had career years for the Cards? Franklin? Thats about it. They have two legit studs at the top of the rotation, baseball's best hitter and probably the best pitching coach. Mediocre can describe the rest of the team, but there were no career years that vaulted them to the top. Chalk it up more to the rest of the division sucking dick.

You're exactly right, Taint. After we made the trades in July for DeRosa, Holliday, and Lugo, it's not like the team batting took a huge leap in production. It was all about Carp, Wainwright, and Pineiro catching a hot streak and the offense doing just enough against mediocre competition to gain separation from the rest of the division.

Skip-below average defensively(improving). light hitter. good average.

Ryan-great glove. decent average. light hitter.

Pujols

Holliday-carried the team for almost two months

Ludwick-decent glove. decent power. Doesn't do nearly enough with all the rbi opportunities he had...should have blown past the century mark in ribbies.

Ankiel-what can I say? Pitchers figured him out a while ago.

Molina-great D. decent average. light hitter. Double play machine...hit into 27, good for 2nd in the majors.

Rasmus-rookie with all the tools. Doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed.

DeRose-after the wrist injury, played well below expectations.

I was looking at the 2009 Cardinals stats and was amazed at how unimpressive most were. Freaking LaRussa got every last drop of production out of those slugs.

It was all about the pitching. Great starting pitching got us into the playoffs. won't carry you far without hitting, though. I think we 350 men on base in this series. Would that be a record?

Could one say the Cards pulled a "Cubs"?

Win the division, three and out.
