Yes

It would fundamentally change how the Senate functions. But your boy Harry Reid instituted this. Was seen as taboo...

Current procedure is 60 votes for Supreme Court nominees. On merit, Gorsuch should be easily confirmed. But we will see.

then why are they saying the gop cannot afford 2 nos...that would be 51-50....maybe it doesnt apply to this type of bill.

Is not a bill...

The nuclear option was a fundamental change put in play in 2013 by then Senate majority leader Harry Reid.

im talking about healthcare vote.
3/20/2017 8:08 PM
The Healthcare legislation in reconcilliation is where a simple majority is needed to repeal, because that's how Dems enacted it in the first place, in reconciliation, which is the budget cost/save portion. To replace, that's where it gets sticky. They will need to get enough support to enact new legislation, then finally there will be changes and amendments, like allowing purchasing across state lines. Without 60 votes it must be done in pieces, to repeal and replace. And they need to get it done prior to getting into tax reform.

but if the house votes for a bill and sends it to the senate and whatever the senate does with it the vote ends up 50-50 i think maybe pence cant vote to break the tie.

My 2 cents is that Dems can say it isn't in freefall, but the mandates, as well as the basic structure just aren't gonna survive. You can't fix it. It needs to be replaced. The Repubs know they have to keep pre existing conditions and keeping 26 and under kids on parents plans, as well as get the rules written to create competition in the market. That way you have lower costs, and more choices. It is complicated, and there are still different views how to best address this. But Trump needs this done, and citizens want Congress to put out a good product. They don't care what you call it. They don't care who takes credit for it. Premiums are going up, choices have narrowed, and some are finding it is too expensive to use. Medicare/ Medicaid will need fixing too. But you have to get one thing done at a time. The other phases of this will streamline the legislation. Personally I think they are on the right path. The status quo really isn't very good.

im talking about the vote...i think it fails at 50-50.
3/20/2017 8:30 PM
I have tried to look at this very objectively. What they are proposing could be quite good, certainly much better than what we got in 2009. They need to be fair to insurers without making them even more rich. Ryan even said today that 50 to 60 yr Olds need a boost, as their premiums tend to rise as they age. I think they have their heads screwed on fairly straight on this. This is really important. Much more important than partisan politics...

i was asking about procedure...i think 50-50 the bill fails.
3/20/2017 8:38 PM
No, 51 would pass it.

This is 1 area where politics has no place. This is our healthcare. It affects all 300 million of us. Is why so many soured on what happened in '09. Repubs were given no say. Obama had a filibuster proof 60 votes. They did it on their own. Politics should be parked long enough to get this done, to put a good bill on Tramp's desk for signature. Pick something else to battle...
