Yeah great work damag. Keep it up dude... Even though my youngstersstrongly object on the "falling apart defensively" note... hell they did shutout #1 and #2 in the rankings today, just to make you eat those words Sunday morning. LOL :>

Eatin' my words is what this is all about, isn't it?
Yep, I filed the results after the 20-game mark, and after 23 games things look a little different already. FUN!
2/10/2008 8:16 AM
Yeah I always enjoy them, even though this season I have to dig deep in the rankings to mind my team.
2/10/2008 9:55 PM
I'm just afraid we're being rated based on reputation, rather than performance!

Almost halfway through Season Nine, we're coming to the All-Star Break... time for the latest round of MLD Power Rankings!
And while everyone knows who the MLD stars are, this season has brought some new faces into the spotlight! We've decided to highlight some players who've not been featured here before... Season Nine's Breakout Stars, Unsung Heroes, and Rookie Sensations.
1 - Yorkton Millers (2) - 25-8-7-0 - drg330
The Millers have all guns blazing... this is the MLD's top scoring team by a wide margin; the only team shooting over 10% collectively.
Breakout Star - In his 4th season, C Lasse Berner has blossomed into the MLD's most lethal shooter with 20 goals already.
2 - Brewster Bears (1) - 25-8-6-1 - corbs1019
Yes, it's almost too close to call between Brewster and Yorkton... the Bears are the only MLD team top five in goals for and goals against.
Breakout Star - RW Shayne Pipinen is leading the Bears with 12 goals thus far in his third season.
3 - Helsinki Lions (6) - 21-11-7-1 - finnski
The Lions have been at the top of the POW Conference standings since the last power rankings, thanks to a top-five defence and the league's best power play.
Rookie Sensation - D Jarrod Blusi has the freedom to shoot and he's among the leading freshman scorers.
4 - Yorba Linda Yowlers (4) - 23-15-2-0 - yogsloth
For yet another season the Yowlers may be the MLD's toughest team to score against, leading the league in GAA and save percentage.
Unsung Hero - While other Yowler rearguards have received more notoriety, D Claire Strauss, an original Yowler, is leading the team in scoring during his final MLD season.
5 - Winnipeg Jets (5) - 21-15-4-0 - gocam
As in seasons past, the Jets are winning with the best defense in the CCC. But check out the power play... the Jets have not tallied with the man advantage yet this season.
Breakout Star - A bit player for many seasons, LW Mats Orraeus is leading the Jets in scoring during his 5th campaign.
6 - NY Pussycats (3) - 19-10-9-2 - ukol
Excellent defensive play has made the Pussycats a real contender in this bounce-back season.
Breakout Star - Third-season LW Gerry Piimanen is tied for the team lead in scoring and leads in +/-.
7 - Valhalla Vikings (12) - 21-14-3-2 - modo21
The Vikings boast the POW Conference's top-scoring offense, top-five in the league.
Unsung Hero - In his final MLD season D Branislav Monni is doing it all for the Vikings, becoming possibly the league's most surprising scoring leader.
8 - Chilliwack Bruins (7) - 19-13-7-1 - bremiro
Bruins goalies Phil Sidback and Gene Laaperi have been great... this team is bottom-five in shots allowed but top ten in save percentage.
Rookie Sensation - LW Snake Pliskin leads the team in +/- and in penalty minutes.
9 - Maricopa Wildcats (8) - 19-15-5-1 - vicpat
Maricopa excels on special teams, with a top five ranking on both the PP and the PK.
Rookie Sensation - D Leigh Orenius leads the Wildcats in scoring and looks to be a mainstay of their blueline for many seasons.
10 - Pontiac Firebirds (11) - 19-16-4-1 - damag
The Firebirds continue to play the MLD's version of soccer games, featuring a bottom-five offense and perhaps the league's stingiest defense. You can't see the goal lights go on because there's too much dust on them.
Rookie Sensation - Local kid C Maxime Gagnon leads the Firebirds in goals this season.
11 - Beaverdale Bangers (17) - 20-18-2-0 - jmerch
The Bangers have rebounded from a tough start by piling on the goals, thanks to one of the league's best power play units.
Unsung Hero - Veteran C Johnny Tasko has rediscovered his Season 7 scoring touch, leading the Bangers in goals.
12 - Anoka Tornados (13) - 15-14-10-1 - big_drive
The Tornados have received heroic goaltending from Steve Dufresne this season... they're bottom five in shots allowed and top five in save percentage.
Unsung Hero - Fifth-season D Mario Siika is perhaps the team's steadiest rearguard, leading the Tornados in +/-.

MLD Power Rankings Part 2...
13 - Wyandotte Hurons (14) - 17-14-9-0 - max259
The Hurons are consistent, in the top half of the league in both goals for and against, and disciplined, as the MLD's least-penalized squad.
Breakout Star - 4th-season RW Danny Vaahtera is realizing his potential, becoming the Hurons' leading scorer.
14 - Encinitas Blades (20) - 16-15-8-1 - jbar8888
The Blades have rocketed up the standings of late as the MLD's hottest team, thanks in part to their top-five powerplay.
Breakout Star - This is not really a surprise, but there may be simply no more indispensible skater in the league to his team than third-season D Frank Kilpio.
15 -Kingston Crooks (9) - 15-16-8-1 - onekrazypuck
The Crooks are last in the MLD in shots on goal but they score a ton. But they give up lots of shots and goals, too. Never a dull moment!
Unsung Hero - The least-notorious member of the Crooks, D Murdo Pajunpaa has quietly become one of their best all-round players in his fourth season.
16 - Halifax Mooseheads (19) - 17-19-4-0 - slorhav
The tenacious Mooseheads have climbed back into contention in the CCC after a rough start and a rash of injuries.
Breakout Star - 3rd-season C Nakina Meriheina has really matured this season and is the team's +/- leader.
17 - Indianapolis Racers (18) - 16-17-7-0 - smeric
The hard-luck Racers are unlucky to play in the brutal Adams Division... their fine offensive and defensive rankings aren't reflected in the team's record.
Rookie Sensation - LW Rumun Mattala is tied for second on the team in goals, and leads the Racers in +/-.
18 - Combermere Cay (10) - 15-19-4-2 - vmorte
The Cay have a top-five offense but their goalies have struggled this season with save percentages.
Unsung Hero - It's only his third season, but D Bucko Tuli continues to meet the standard of fine play he established in his tremendous rookie campaign.
19 - Roswell Aliens (21) - 15-20-2-3 - rammers
The Aliens give up goals in bunches this season, ranking in the bottom five in save percentage.
Unsung Hero - Original Alien RW Jean-Louis Francois, after having been warehoused four seasons in a row, is enjoying a fine return to the Aliens lineup. And you thought he was dead.
20 - Gotham City Knights (15) - 12-20-8-0 - jaydenw31
The Knights have really lost any scoring touch this season, ranking in the bottom five in scoring and shooting percentage.
Rookie Sensation - first-round pick C Doug Zuick is living up to the hype, leading the Knights' youngsters in scoring.
21 - Henderson Hornets (16) - 10-20-7-3 - blee3467
The Hornets are really struggling defensively, dead last in the league in goals against... and on the penalty kill.
Unsung Hero - Stalwart D Jiri Sundstrom, an original Hornet in his final MLD season, is the only player on the team with a plus rating.
22 - Hernando Hit Men (22) - 13-24-2-1 - thewaffleman
The Hit Men are the only MLD team in the bottom three in both goals scored and goals against. If this were "American Idol"...
Unsung Hero - Yes, he's actually the Franchise Player, but look at G Jose Pirneskoski's stats and you'll realize one of the MLD's best goalies plays for one of its worst teams.
23 - Okanagan Ogopogoes (24) - 11-22-4-3 - canuk
The Ogo's are actually quite good on special teams... top-ten on the PP and #2 on the PK.
Rookie Sensation - G Arch Packalen may be making a move on the #1 job.
24 - Intercourse Dutchmen (24) - 7-24-9-0 - bigbadgreen1
Icing a virtual farm team lineup in every game, the Dutchmen seem resigned to another season at the bottom of the CCC.
Unsung Hero - Classy 5th-season LW Raymond Rontolainen is overseeing the development of these young players.
Just for fun - the MLD Season Nine All-Name Team! (Take a bow, owners.)
First Team - C Harry Busch, RW Les Golmorblood, LW Peanuts McGuillicutty, D Jack Daniels, D Smelli Kupp, G Rusty Magoo
Second Team - C Douglas Fyr, RW Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, LW Puffin Green, D Ja,es Schultz, D P.C. Ylala, G Baldy Voutila
THE BIG STORY:
Well, you'd think there'd be some separation in the rankings but it really hasn't happened yet. The teams at the top stay close together; the rankings around "the line" change by the day. It's one of the most competitive MLD seasons yet, so till next time, enjoy it and keep it UNREAL!
2/18/2008 5:27 PM
Hanging on to #4! Woot!
2/19/2008 3:56 PM
The Firebirds continue to play the MLD's version of soccer games, featuring a bottom-five offense and perhaps the league's stingiest defense. You can't see the goal lights go on because there's too much dust on them.
That's frickin funny!!

So let the debate begin.
I really don't have a problem with carrying extra players for a playoff run in return for picks. I know I am involved with this particular trade, but if someone else did it I would not be apposed. Damag is going to lose a draft pick in 2 seasons so it is not really a freebie for him.
I shopped these 2 guys for around 2 weeks and no one was willing to move a roster player with as little as 1 season . My team is rebuilding and as an owner it is important to try and expedite the process just like any GM would do in real life. I don't think it becomes an epidemic because people can only skate 35 the next season anyway and in order to take on these players you do have to give something up.
I enjoy WIS attempting to emulate hockey as close as possible to real life so I would hope that there is no need to regulate this because it might actually help the struggling teams rebuild faster.
I propose we allow for a max of 1 extra roster spot during the season because the roster will be forced into the 35 mold in the offseason.
2/28/2008 2:55 PM
I'm kinda hurt now, that I was the last guy he shopped those two players to.
Yes, I guess we broke the mold, all because I forgot to count. As I said in the league forum, we all have a veto. We seldom ever use it because we're all a fairly polite bunch, but if we ever saw an owner going crazy, well then it's up to us to decide how to deal with it. I was kind of worried that the owners would veto that deal. Now if jayden had given me four players for one draft pick, yeah that would make you lose your lunches, wouldn't it?
The 35 player limit is there for the beginning of the season. Now we know that it's not there during the rest of the season. Obviously admin built it this way, because at the start of next season you have to get to 35 again anyway. And as I see it, it's just more roster management hell you can get yourself into if you want to.
I echo jayden's sentiment about making it realistic. This has been the tradin'est MLD season I've been part of yet. The ownership is getting more adventurous, rolling the dice, seeing what we can get out of our players. I think that's good. We don't have a "Mad Milbury" owner in our league... yet. But hey, it keeps things interesting.
2/28/2008 3:25 PM
I agree that had I noticed the 'over the limit' nature of that trade, I would have vetoed it. But honestly I rarely examine trades very closely as I rarely make trades (only 2 so far in the entire MLD) and rarely do people propose trades to me. That flashing trade activity light is on so often that I ignore it a lot.
2/28/2008 7:08 PM
I really don't care about the in-season roster limit. I kinda like the idea that it's possible to compeltely F yourself if you trade for that 36th guy and forget to drop somebody before the next season. If I wanted it simple, I'd play open leagues.
I say who gives a rat's patootie and let's just roll on.
2/28/2008 11:03 PM
Again I'd like to stress that I only pointed out that "over the roster limit" thing about that trade as an observation...... surprised that sim was allowing it to go through.
I in no way meant to public embarass or single out Damag and Jayden, sorry for the spotlight guys!
As for future cases.... it'd probably be easier to allow these kind of trades going over 35 during the season and just having the system ENFORCE the 35 player limit at the start of the season. I say enforce boldly cuz the system will likely have no method to who it decides to cut, and randomly drop someone, possibly a sentinmental favorite of yours.
I have no idea how such trades will affect things in the future...... but I agree, it would add to the management decisions to be made to your MLD team.
2/29/2008 3:40 PM
Public embarrassment is my thing, man.
NO HARM DONE! I told you all already, I'M the one who F'd it up. Case Closed.
Now watch Balboa go score 50 for Gotham City.
