win, loss, loss, win, RPI 108. Not our year.

Win versus UVA in the first round of the CT. The team is a long, long, long shot to reach the NT. The PIT is out of the question.

Outlook and plan for Season 31:

First off, I'll be pumping all of my scads of ACC money into a single, relatively local C, who will develop while Noah finishes up his career. When you've got one spot there's no other legitimate choice. I mean, maybe I could cut Henry, but it would hurt my reputation, and I'd rather just fill the spot next year. I've got about half as much now as I generally do when I've got 6 open spots, and my prestige still isn't bad, so I think I've got a good shot at the kid. If I don't get him, not a big deal.

Now, as to the current group...here's the depth chart:

PG: Hodges, Whittaker
SG: Lee, Montero
SF: Traylor, Koualeski, Henry
PF: Noah, French
C: Rumfelt, Jones

I want to start upgrading my athleticism on the inside, as I think that's one of my weak points on the team. Otherwise, I think we look like a solid group. I'll post the IQs after I finish with recruiting and get a new guy, but they're really quite good (with the exception of Koualeski).

Do I have any legitimate stars? Well, Hodges is a great pass-first PG, but that's not the same thing as a star. Whittaker's ballhandling holds him back a tiny bit there but I think he makes up for it in rebounding and athleticism. Lee's got great ratings for the position but he's just not fast enough to be a great guard in high level DI. Montero's ballhandling is obviously problematic, and he could polish up his perimeter a bit more, but he's got some promise as a specialist off of the bench. Henry, hah. Traylor has made progress, but clearly he's not there yet. Koualeski's a long way off. Noah...closest thing we've got, I guess, and he's not a scorer. Maybe together with Rumfelt, who has the low post moves but not the rebounding, and who is decidedly handicapped by FT shooting. French and Jones are both very raw.

So, no stars. Maybe Whittaker could be. Hmm.

I'm losing out on the guy to UVA. Oh well. I'll post him.

Hey coach, you asked me to give you my thoughts on how everyone looked after the offseason and I think I've seen enough to do that. I only jotted down things that stood out to me...

Jermaine French:
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
speed: limited upside
[with LP being at 65, that'll hurt his scoring for the rest of his career]

Leroy Henry:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
stamina: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[no surprise, he's been topped off here]

Abraham Hodges:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[that leaves...low post moves]

Leon Jones:
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
passing: limited upside
speed: limited upside
[I'm hoping I can get a lot more stamina/athleticism from him, and some more LP and FT shooting wouldn't hurt, either. The only slightly disconcerting area of limited upside is in passing. I mean, speed would be nice, but not necessary, and he's topped out on defense.]

Daniel Koualeski:
durability: big upside
stamina: big upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[we'll just have to see how this plays out]

John Lee:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
stamina: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[completely topped off. I'll be lucky to see 8 points of improvement from him over the course of the year]

Glenn Montero:
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
passing: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[still room to improve in perimeter, which is the important one for him. Athleticism, too. I wish he could speed up but I knew that when I recruited him.]

William Noah:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
stamina: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[looks like everything]

Roger Rumfelt:
athleticism: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[looks like everything]

Albert Traylor:
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
[obviously he has some growth in him. Too bad about rebounding, though.]

Richard Whittaker:
athleticism: limited upside
ball handling: limited upside
defensive fundamentals: limited upside
durability: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
passing: limited upside
perimeter shooting: limited upside
rebounding: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
ft shooting: limited upside
[hmm, topped out. That's too bad.]

Dennis bishop:
ball handling: limited upside
low post moves: limited upside
shot blocking: limited upside
speed: limited upside
[walk-on. Who cares?]

Anyway, maybe some guidelines for practice time? If I notice anything else, I'll let you know.

- Nicholas
