NEW ENGINE NOW

Exactly.

we're not getting anything anytime soon... if we were, they would've mentioned something to keep an eye out for.

that's why I'll be cutting back on leagues to just the 2 progressives i'm in.
8/1/2009 1:52 AM
Yup. I'm staying with the one progressive I'm in until my credits run out, then I'm gone.

It's too late for change at this point. The customer service shown in the past few months leads me to believe nothing will change soon, and even if it does, it'll be full of holes that we'll get nothing but teeth-pulled responses about for the months following.

Too bad, WIS.

above we have a team with a positive differential in just about every significant stat category (have a look at their W-L) including att/made 3s and FTs

my suggestion for consideration for hypothetical future release: maybe the stats could have some determining influence on outcome?

(this team really feeds my paranoia vis-a-vis seble doing some programming trickery to sabotage my teams - the only thing that keeps me sane is the fact that there is no way that seble is competent enough to make such a thing as above happen on purpose)

If TeamOwner$="Monkee" then . . . .
8/2/2009 6:49 PM
The rate things are going, none of us will have to worry about it, because there will be less than 24 of us and we won't be able to fill a League. This horrid lack of Customer Service is absolutely crazy. I whole-heartedly believe they are trying to let the NBA SIM die.
8/2/2009 6:59 PM
as I said in the league, monkee, your team's performance is mind-blowing.

My own team is performing subparly, partly because of extremely poor substitution logic. The depth chart is almost useless for anything other than having 5 guys starting at 5 positions with 5 back-ups while putting the other 2 guys on "rest" so they won't be subbed in. Really frustrating to see a $250k scrub come in and play 10 minutes when I've got a guy with plenty of fatigue higher on the depth chart sitting. Also frustrating to see a slightly fatigued guy play 32+ minutes 4 games in a row when you put him at 20 minutes on the depth chart.

It's like - why bother having coaching options at all right now? Just draft your team and go mia for the next 41 days and see if you made the playoffs. Then go mia for the next 3 weeks and come back and see if you won.

That's about the control we have over our teams currently. Why is that? It's because the sim responds in no way close to anything consistent no matter what adjustments you make.
8/2/2009 8:02 PM
imo, this is by far the worst / most annoying version of the sim since I've been playing it (about 3 years). there are way too many issues here..

substitution logic - it's illogical
D ratings / Position Effectiveness - 08-09 players
3 Point shooting (older guys are damn good but didn't even shoot 3s)
PF / FTA imbalance
Offense vs Defense salary weightage imbalance
W-L records vs Sim Stats problem
too much random variance / outliers (related to above problem)

of course, these are just the main issues I saw when I skimmed this thread for a minute... but you could also include:

assists are off the charts (directly related to the salary issue)

It's not worth adding a bunch of new features if the old problems still exist.

Attention Rookie Owners

We noticed this is your first experience playing SimLeague Basketball, so we'd like to make you aware of some critical pieces of the game:

* Pace Adjustments: A player's involvement & performance can translate successfully across multiple offenses. For example, Tim Duncan sees the highest percentage of shots taken within a slow-down offense. If you put him in a fast-pace offense, he'll see an increase in shots attempted to maintain his dominant presence in an offense. On the other hand, it's important to represent all the elements of a team. You need players to handle the ball, eat up possession time, rebound and take shots.
* Component Stats: Points scored and rebounds are often considered the most important stats in basketball. But it's the component stats that generate these numbers. And that's how the engine sees it, too. The % of shots taken relative to a player's team drives the total points scored for a player. Likewise, the ratio of rebounds per opportunity leads to rebounds. As a player's team around him changes or as a player's defensive/offensive scheme changes, his counting stats will be impacted.
* Sample Size: An exhibition season is only 10 games long. Ten games is a very small sample size, so what you see here may not be indicative of what you'd see over the course of an 82 game season. The 1993-04 David Robinson may only be averaging 18 points per game after 10 games, but he should get closer to 30 PPG over an entire season. Keep this in mind when you see some players struggle or some players excel.

For more information regarding the game, be sure to check out the FAQ and Rules along the menu above.

not in real life

in real life people figure a 7 game series is enough to decide which is really the better team - (7 games is a big enough sample size in real life but as we all know and they now admit the engine is subject to more severe and more frequent outlier behavior than occurs in real life when in fact it should be much less so)

WIS once again so tone deaf and stupid blind to their own shortcomings they trumpet them as assets

problem number 1

We're also talking about tweaking position effectiveness to make it slightly less restrictive in general rather than manually editing certain players.
how's that debate going?

The MLB SIM has had 29 items updated in the last 2 months. That's easily more than I've seen in the NBA SIM since I joined in 1/03.
