You really are a prodigy, SB. I wouldn’t have guessed you were so young. Monsterturtl is in the teens too, I don’t know of any others of your generation, there must be a few though.

My son started playing just prior to his HS junior season, but didn’t like the previous version of the game, and quit before 3.0. He keeps threatening to come back to give it a try, but he’s looking at law school now so who knows.

When I was your age, I was playing Baseball Stars and Baseball Simulator 1000 on Nintendo. I was also making “simulation” baseball games with baseball cards and actual dice. I “simmed” through about a dozen seasons with a few friends, but the advent of fantasy baseball killed my game. :( I joke, but it’s true, these kinds of games are not widely popular. Cross sections of sports fans, stat geeks, and management sim lovers may get hooked, but the detail that we love turns a lot of people off. Thank the gods there are folks making and maintaining these niche games. Labor of love.

Thanks shoe. I heard MonsterTurtl is around my age from a few people after I told them and I'll probably reach out eventually now that were in Tark D3 together. I agree with you on the last point especially that it takes a very specific type of person to play this game.

All of the responses have been so good!

I know it's been talked about before, but what has been your best moment in HD?

For me, it was finally getting to my alma mater, Oklahoma State. Talk about a grind. I started playing in Wooden and was really bad. I didn't know anyone to tell me what I should be looking for or what I should be doing. I think I won fewer than ten games combined my first two seasons. From day one, I had my eye on OSU. They had a coach at that time in Wooden, and I was just hoping he wouldn't stay there forever. He didn't. He was gone about the time I was just finding my feet in DII. I still wasn't good, but I was falling into a few more wins. But I still need a lot more time before I qualified. I checked every job period to make sure no one had taken them. And every year they stayed SIM, I knew I still had a chance. Fast forward a handful of seasons and I'm at DI, from what I can tell, within a season or two of qualifying for OSU. Another coach takes them. I'm absolutely gutted. I actually sent him a nice, respectful message (which might've been frowned upon, but I didn't care) asking if he saw himself being there long term because it was my dream job and yada, yada, yada. He said he wasn't sure.

So I knew Wooden was out, at least for a little while. I had already gotten a second team in Iba. I was starting off MUCH better, both with picking good teams and recruiting good players. That OSU was open. I was have good-but-not-great seasons at low-DI with Southern, still checking every job period to see if I'd need to send another message to another coach who was crushing my dream. For two seasons, I thought I had done just enough to qualify, only to find out I didn't. That meant six more weeks of waiting and another job period hoping they stayed open. The next year I knew I needed to make the NT. If I made the NT, I figured they were mine. I lost in the conference championship game and was 1-seed in the PI. I was sure the game was ******* with me. Anyway, the next season I got to the second round of the NT with Southern and qualified for my dream job. The 23-hour wait period was tough. I made a pot of coffee, stayed up just to see my name there. And it popped immediately at 1 a.m. I had made it home to Stillwater, in the Iba world no less.

I might've cried a little. I had spent so many seasons so close, between the two worlds, and now I was there. I could rebuild them. I could win games for them. It has been every bit as enjoyable as I dreamed it would be day one in Wooden.

I love this game so much. I've spent more time on it than I care to admit. And like beachhouse, I've probably spent money on it I didn't really have. But I would do it all again. All the heartbreaking losses, all the frustrating recruiting seasons. Everything has been worth it. I had pretty significant ankle surgery a couple years back. I was stuck on the couch, not putting any weight on my ankle, for four months. This game kept me sane. The messages with the friends I've made here kept me sane. I know it's not perfect. We all know the scars. But the truth is, even with all its brokenness, HD is still the best out there.

I've gotten my dad, my brother, and two friends into the game. Working on a third now. They all love it and the majority of them aren't even huge college basketball fans. The product is good and marketable. I have no doubts. I wish WIS had a plan of attack at the very least.

Hi all, I don't post much in the forums but this thread has been a joy to read and see what other people are doing in their life and how life is treating them as a whole.

In the real world, I'm the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Central Penn College just outside of Harrisburg, PA. This is my first season as a Head Coach at the collegiate ranks after a few years as a volunteer assistant at a few colleges, coaching club soccer, and coaching high school ball. Friday the 13th, I was actually able to pick up career win number one against our school's rival, a team that we had beaten only once in the previous 13 meetings. Unfortunately we have not won any matches since then (Currently sit 1-4-1) but I'm confident with the direction we are going in trying to build something solid here for the long run. (If any of you are looking for a chance to play college soccer or have a son/nephew/etc. looking to play college soccer, shoot me a sitemail on here!)

Outside of work, my first child (a son) will be here in just a few weeks. The wife is scheduled for a C-Section on Oct. 11th but it seems very possible he may come before that as he has been measuring big along the way!

Here is a picture of me and the goal scorers from my first win:

All right, this thread is pretty great. I'm also from Chicagoland and when Sportsbulls said CPK was his favorite pizza I cringed a little. It's ok, Sportsbulls, you're still young; I'm confident you'll come to your senses one day ;)

My interest in HD has been all over the map since 3.0 but I'm up to 3 teams for the first time in a couple years now so hopefully that's a good sign. A cool HD story is when I first started playing I posted on the forums looking for a mentor and jdno (retired now but one of the HD greats) reached out to me. We site mailed back and forth a bunch and it turned out the guy lived about 4 miles from me. Fast forward 7 years and we're good real life friends. He even got me back into playing real basketball. Once upon a time I was very good. I'm also of the pale persuasion but could dunk at 5'6" and shoot lights out. I went to University of Illinois for college and after a pickup game one of the team assistants came up to me and convinced me I NEEDED to be at the team's open tryouts (for non-scholarship players). Sadly, two days before I blew out my ankle and that was the last time I took basketball seriously. IF I had walked on that team I would have been teammates with no names like Dee Brown, Deron Williams, and Luther Head and really, who would have wanted that? Le Sigh.

In real life I'm a nurse and work in an extremely busy and complex cath lab. Among a ton of other things, that's where the docs balloon and stent you heart arteries if they have blockages. Best part of the job is getting called in for emergencies when someone is having an active heart attack-I realize that sounds morbid but the adrenaline rush mixed with making sure my patient lives is what makes the job awesome.

I've since given up basketball again and concentrate mostly on bowling and running. I'm almost good enough at bowling to compete nationally with the best in the country but just don't want to live out of a suitcase at 37 years old while having 2 kids. I'm going to attempt to bowl the Masters (same concept as the tennis and golf Masters) next year as a bucket list thing.

For the most part, I also think the HD community is pretty awesome.

Best. Thread. Ever.
My best HD moment? Probably my only title game appearance, as I took my double-digit seeded Oberlin College through a gauntlet of great Coaches only to lose to another great one (IMO) scottslotss. That was my only appearance, sadly, and that was early in my career. Honestly, I enjoy every second of this game...especially those Sim losses that make you scratch your head. I'm currently at King's College (D3) in Knight, Stevenson University (D3) in Phelan and Fairmont State (D2) in Tark. I'll probably drop Fairmont State, and maybe Stevenson as well. Three teams are too much for me. My only real "accomplishments" in the game are being the all-time leader in wins at two D3 schools in Knight, #3 in total wins in Knight history, and I haven't checked recently but my long run at Oberlin had them as the second best D3 program in Knight for wins.
I've been trying to get my son into the game. I've explained the recruiting process and let him choose a recruit who turned out to be pretty darn good. He's too busy with other video games, though, for something like this. He has a monetized YouTube channel and has made almost $1000 since early Spring making mostly Fortnite videos, lol. He's cut back on videos lately to do other things (getting ready for basketball season). He did have a video with over a million views, so that was awesome.

Yup. Things got somewhat toxic in the forums with the Fox sale/3.0. This thread kinda grounds you a little. We're all just a bunch of guys (forgive me if there are any ladies out there) playing a game we love.

I'm telling you there's something about the CPK kids small pizza. I've had Lou Mal's many time (it's great), I've had Pequad's a ton, Giordanos, a ton of other great Chicago places, even the CPK large pizzas, but none compare. It's probably sentimental because I had that all of a time as a kid, but something about it is special.

Wow. That's pretty cool for your son. I've seen a few Fortnite videos. I could never play it though. I'd probably end up on one of those rage compilations. Haha

I'm from the Chicagoland as well. Just across the border in Northwest Indiana.

I remember that U of I team with Brown, Williams, and Head. I remember the year they lost to that great UNC team in the championship.

There is a coach out there that I've sitemailed with a few times, to help the other coach, and I'm curious if it is a female coach, based on the name. It's "mskaukman" or something along those lines. I always wanted to ask if that name meant "Ms K....." but I just never got around to asking.

My favorite HD moment BY FAR was recently coming in at #2 on the list of highest season RPI of all time in D2, at Post. Finishing at .7509, it was the 2nd year of back to back titles (Smith is the only world that I've accomplished that.... more on that later). I had a 6 man Sr class, 5 of those were 800+ ovr, and the 6th was a 100 PER guy. The starting PG was a Jr but was also +800 ovr. I beat two D1 ranked teams by 20 points each in my two exhibition games that season. 35-0.

With the squad I had, and the competition I faced, I'm not sure if the #1 record of .7562 will ever be beaten. I personally feel like it was the best D2 team of all time.

The only negative regarding that entire season, was that benis wouldn't update the highest RPI thread without me threatening his life and stalking him for months! Kidding buddy!

Anyways, next goal is winning a title in every 1x world (the only worlds that I play in). I've got 5 worlds down, two to go. Iba and Allen.... I'm coming for you D2'ers!
