BNL #9 Draft - Keep the line moving! Topic

ermocito - It is dagger time! I like the way redcped broke down the roster so I will do something similar to arrive at my conclusion.

Catcher: You have a lot of options here with your cheapest being just over $1M and most expensive $4M so I see a platoon here not worthy of a dagger.
First Base: Only two options for a starter here for me are with Cedeno and a cheaper with less AB's Billy Goodman. Plenty of bench 1B's from 574K to 841K so no likely need for a dagger here.
Second Base: You have Bobby Doer who is by far your best at the position and at $6.8M but the rest are scrubs and would force a platoon here so Bobby has my attention as I write this.
Third Base: There are a few options here with J. Pesky $6.8M and B. Lewis at $5.6M and good numbers form a crappy team is intriguing, and your cheapest bench 3B is over $2.6M. Really have my attention here.
Shortstop: V. Stephens is nice but at $7M and your bench SS's are 876K, 1.05M, etc. So not much more damage can be done other than take Stephens out. Low interest here.
Outfield: Teddy is at almost $11M so kudos to you if you want to build a roster with him he is all yours and may take the MVP! You have plenty of OF's to choose from and plenty of cheap bench so not much interest here.

Starting Pitching: You have some innings with Pamel and Kinder from the Red Sox, Leonard from the Sens, and a few arms to choose from the Astros as the A's staff is hot garbage. Niekro is a nice piece at $6.4M but I think JR Richard is too expensive at over $10M for 293 IP's and would hurt the budget and Pamel at $9.3M is a good chunk of change. Leonard is for sure in the conversation as he gives you a good amount of innings and a decent ERC# due to the era (not ERA) and only $7.6M on the crappy Senators which could force you to pick one more of them not named Dutch.
Relief Pitching: The Astros have some arms you can use...and the Red Sox have an arm or to but this is the least attractive of my attention.

Stadiums : Fenway (singles and big doubles park), Shibe Park (singles park neutral everywhere else), Griffith Stadium (negative HR park), and the Astrodome (extreme negative HR park). You don't have a lot of HR power on this team but could have a little pop depending on the build.

Final Conclusion: I am going with Dutch Leonard as the player dagger as it takes away the best arm on the Senators and forces you to use others and I will take away the Astrodome. This may not hurt your plans but these are the daggers for you.

I will be taking the 59 dodgers as my 4th team

seay00 - Your collective of the 59 Giants, 49 Browns, 49 A’s and 59 Braves provides you with strength at SP and offense led by Mays, Aaron, Mathews, Cepeda and Joost. You are weak at RP and have a mish-mosh of other players to fill out the roster.

Initially I zoned in on Eddie Joost given that your other players at the position were scrubs (I’m being kind). Bressard, Sullivan, etc. BUT THEN!!! You selected the 59 Braves and Johnny Logan who is a nice value at $4.5M. He offers a nice bat and a good glove. Instead of taking out Joost and his $7M salary, I’m going to let you fit his $7M salary in with your other sluggers and pricey SP’s and throw the dagger at Johnny Logan. If Joost doesn’t fit your plan, I’m sure Eddie Bressoud, John Sullivan, Andre Roger’s or Eddie Pellagrini would love to take over your 8-slot in the lineup.

Your stadiums aren’t exciting, so I’ll take Seals Stadium off of your list. It is your most pitcher friendly ballpark and your other options will be more neutral to your starting pitchers.

We are formally paused on the round 4 draft (NL daggers are still fine).
Once 3day is up to speed and ready to pick, I will post new times to finish up round 4.

I don't expect a long pause, so stay aware.

redcped- 1st dagger.

So I looked at your 4 teams and you are covered everywhere which will lead to a nice final roster. How do I help myself and hurt their chances of winning? You have proven to be very knowledgeable and your teams always perform well. We lucked out last year to avoid you in the playoffs. No World Series appearance if we had faced you in the LCS.

Alright, enough of the niceties! I initially thought of taking out Willie Kamm at 3B, but you could platoon some lesser players and possibly save cash. Same with the SS Brown. I won't lie- I don't like leaving 1B Johnny Mize for you. He is a beast. You will have to pay for him though at 8.1 mil. Your bullpen is not daunting at all, I'm very happy to see that. But none of your relievers are worth a 1st dagger- as that likely lets you off the hook and allows you to protect what you want most on the final 25 (for the 2nd dagger). No, No, no to that champ. Ahhhhh-yeah, you're never gonna get it. Nah, you're never gonna get it.....

Doesn't matter what you do or what you say
She don't love you, no way
Maybe next time you'll give your woman a little respect
So you won't be hearing her say, No way

Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it, never gonna get it
Never gonna get it (whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa)

I hope you liked swaying along to that little ditty, I had to pick the sweetest song to capture this moment for you. You're never gonna get SP Sam McDowell and his masterful numbers at the top of your rotation making potentially 45-50 starts. Perhaps, you had plans without Sam, but its no longer is a possibility. We will not be seeing McDowell make it easier on your pedestrian bullpen. We will not see him pitch 3 times in a 7 game series. Have fun picking 6 other people off that 69 Indians bunch. No free lunch on a gifted team ever!

And say bye to Comiskey Park. Your Orioles starters need no help. You need a happy outro...

Let's get loud, let's get loud
Turn the music up, let's do it
C'mon, people, let's get loud, let's get loud
Turn the music up to hear that sound
Let's get loud, let's get loud
Ain't nobody gotta tell ya what you gotta do

Ah, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, ah!
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Well played and sung. Big Sam is a tough loss, but maybe I can upgrade the offense with the savings. Back to the drawing board tonight.

Not looking forward to your dagger on me in Round 2! Just couldn’t allow Sam to go on that final roster with your managerial skills. Especially with no wild card this time.

jbar8888 first round daggers will be 79 Dale Berra and Cleveland Stadium.
He has plenty of pitchers in the 1.10-1.20 whip range so daggering Bob Gibson didn't seem like it would hurt too much. Besides Gibson is over 10 million so he probably won't take him with a 10 million Ernie Banks as well. What he doesn't now have is a cheap 3rd base backup, forcing him to waste over 2 million in dead salary for a backup.
Cleveland Stadium is his best pitcher's park so it's gone too.

Vilefileman has many cheap or 1 to 2 mil options on offence and a few really good options for relief pitchers. So automaticly I narrow it down to 2 options

1 Fritz Peterson he is the best option that you have at SP but if I Dagger him you still have a posibility of choosing a starting rotation of Stottlemyre, Daley, Boswell, Perry Garver Kaat. so im going to have to pass on daggering Peterson

2. That means you can say good bye to Harmon Killebrew 3b Even though his defence is D+ D rating but he still is the best option at 3b and it leaves a defenite hole at 3b with Dick WIllillams as the best option. I am also Daggering Killebrew because there was possibility even with limitations of no cheap players that you were thinking of moving him to 1b where he is ok defensivley and is by far your best option at 1b and so he is gone.

Park I am going to take away the best pitcher park so Yankee Stadium is gone
