Tea Party 4-18-11 Topic

I assume you meant "bother," or the first sentence makes no sense.

A small group of Republicans voted against extending the provisions. This was true of both the Tea Party and other Republicans. So how does this show how different they are? If anything, it suggests the opposite.

So voting against the Mainstream Republican position shows you are just like Republicans?

That seems odd.

In the first place, they ARE Republicans. It isn't actually a new political party.

Second, if the old guard Republicans are voting one way, and the Tea Party another, you would have a point. In this case, both groups are split.

It is a faction inside the party.

And to say both voted for and against isnt accurate.

The rebellion was lead by the Tea Party and supported by some mainstream sympathtic to them.

If by not accurate you mean completely accurate, then yes.

And calling this a rebellion is way over the top. It didn't pass mainly because of Democrats.

Well if you need 10 votes and you get 9 everyone who didnt vote for it gets the same credit.

And I guess completely accurate would be more, well more accurate.

Rebellion is just a catch phrase.

The point is that on many issues the TP is going to show people that they walk the walk.

WikiLeaks cables: Saudi Arabia cannot
pump enough oil to keep a lid on prices

The US fears that Saudi Arabia, the world's largest crude oil exporter, may not have enough reserves to prevent oil prices escalating, confidential cables from its embassy in Riyadh show.

The cables, released by WikiLeaks, urge Washington to take seriously a warning from a senior Saudi government oil executive that the kingdom's crude oil reserves may have been overstated by as much as 300bn barrels – nearly 40%.

So the increased price of gas isn't from Bush and his Halliburton Weather Machine?
2/18/2011 12:17 PM
It doesn't really matter what conspiracy you cook up or who you blame it on, the point is that this country is ridiculously unprepared for $5+ gas prices.

$5 gas would not destroy us. Break it down for a family.

Say you use about 10 gallons of gas a week and gas goes up from $3.50 to $5.

On a yearly basis you would spend and extra $780.

Cost to many things would increase in a similar way. It will still be cheaper to have everyone but Chickens from Arkansas and have them shipped to your state.

Typical liberal response. You cannot address an issue because the facts dont really support you, so you fall back on "You must support the Left position because all the Conservatives are Crazy/Evil/Stupid".

Someone said $5 a gallon would create a great hardship on us. I broke down some of the numbers to show that in fact it wouldnt be a huge burden.

10 gallons of gas a week is a very low estimate.  Especially in the big cities and especially for people who commute from the burbs in their gas-guzzling SUVs,

In no way did you "break down" the numbers.  I'll give you the 10 gal a week average, but that's just for one vehicle.  The average American family owns over 2 vehicles.  And I have no idea what chickens from AR have to do with this, but if your referring to the cost of transport, you would be woefully naive to think that your fast food and Chinese Walmart junk wouldn't increase in price.
