I think 10 gallons is a good estimate. If both sposes work than it might be low.

10 gallons*25MPG=250 miles

You live 15 miles from work. That is 150 miles.

Wife goes to school and back 5 times a week. say 30 miles.

Shopping 20 miles.

That means 50 for misc.

That part seems realistic.

In no way did you "break down" the numbers.  I'll give you the 10 gal a week average, but that's just for one vehicle.  The average American family owns over 2 vehicles.  And I have no idea what chickens from AR have to do with this, but if your referring to the cost of transport, you would be woefully naive to think that your fast food and Chinese Walmart junk wouldn't increase in price.
Everything would go up. It just wouldnt be crippling.

We are seeing the high end of energy use. China and India are really cranking up.

As we use less it will shift the burden to them and we will actually gain a benefit.

When I lived in California I drove 52 miles one way to work every morning. After the earthquake and the freeway fell down in order to get to work thru the mountains added another 26 miles. Guess what? I was not unusual. The average was higher for most of my neighbors. Try sticking to a subject you know something about, like eating.

1 The national average for trips is not 52 miles. California is not the rule in this case.

2 When I said shopping I meant mandatory shopping (groceries, supplies, etc). Recreational shopping would go under misc.

3 Again on average I think 25 is realistic. Almost everyone has a higher MPG. A lot of driving to a distant job is freeway.

Don't you have to get home from work?  Shouldn't that be 300?

Don't you have to get home from work?  Shouldn't that be 300?
If you  work 10 days a week it would be 300. If you work 5 days a week it is 150.

Agreed.  The bare minimum that my family can survive is 20 gallons a week, and that is with a car that gets 30 MPG. 

$1500 more per year is $1500 that isn't going anywhere else to help the economy.

Then wouldn't it make sense to promote more oil alternatives? Or maybe even less consumption?

Actually, I was thinking more that we should eliminate all funding for your highly subsidized lifestyle since we can no longer afford it.  Time to get you off the government teet.
