Kevin Bieksa 198 lbs.
Viktor Stalberg 210 lbs.
John Scott 258 lbs.
So Stalberg slashes a 25 minute a game player in the head and that player is supposed to challenge a guy who's barely played 25 minutes in the NHL. Why can't Stalberg be responsible for his own reckless stick.
Have a nice summer.
Peter, this blind defense of any player wearing Canuck colors is getting tiresome. Take off the blue/green glasses and look at the situation objectively as a hockey fan.
Size doesn't necessarily mean everything in this case.
Mario Lemieux was over 230lbs. You think anyone in the league challenged him if he slashed anyone? No. They challenged other players on the Penguins that they knew would fight. Why? Because they had honor.
Jean Beliveau was a monster of a man for his time. You think he had guys grabbing him and throwing off the gloves?
And we're not just talking about stars here. Ex-Canuck Jyrki Lumme had decent size, but you never saw anyone challenge him.
The bottom line is some guys, no matter their size, are not fighters. To fight in the NHL, it takes a certain type of personality, a certain mindset, and every player in the league knows who the willing combattants are and challenge opponents accordingly. What Bieksa did was without honor and gutless because he could challenged any of Toews, Seabrook, Brouwer or Bickell. Further to that point, he could have waited and laid out a big hit instead as payback. His beating of a non-fighter accomplished nothing more than showing how ridiculous his attempt to appear tough really was.
