To dispel the myth that new players to DIII don't have an opportunity for success, take a look at the Naismith DIII playoffs going on right now. In the field of 64, here's this season's demographic:
Years experience Number of teams
One season 7
Two seasons 9
Three seasons 9
Four to five seasons 9
Six to nine seasons 11
10 to 14 seasons 9
15 to 21 seasons 9
Average: 6.8 seasons/team
39% of the teams in this year's tournament are in their third season or less, likely playing with someone else's seniors. Note that these include two #1 seeds, a #2 seed and a #3 seed. More than half of the field is in their fifth season or less.
Personally I like competition, and couldnt care less about competing with experianced coaches, it just gives you more of an opportunity to learn what works and what doesnt...also if a new coach wants to walk into a good situation they can as I did in Crum and also did in DII Tark making a lateral world...in Naismith I took over a team that has made two NT appearances in 20 seasons...and wont leave until they return...the point is that there are differant options available to all new coaches if they want to walk into a good situation, they are there and if the want to build a program those opportunities are there as well...
To your statistical chart above...as I said I dont care if 100% of the NT is filled with coached who are new or old, but your chart is not practical as it does not tell the whole story...for example you have there that 9 coaches had 15 or more year experiance and those 9 only made up whatever percentage of the field...You stats fail to include whether those nine teams eat up the top 8 seeds, whether they dominate the tournament and what percentage of teams with 15 or more years made the tournament meaning if their are only 9 teams being coached by coaches with 15 or more experiance then 100% of coaches who fall into that category would have made the NT...no offense but the chart is worthless in that it doesnt prove or disprove anything...
Bottom line is the reason people dont sign up for HD is no one knows about it...I signed up in November simply because a buddy of mine told me about it...since I have joined I have referred 7 new coaches all of who would have signed up years ago (myself included) had we heard about it...They need to advertise on fantasy sites and Im sure volume would increase tremendously as I am sure 80% or more of HD users are involved in some sort of fantasy league.
