Favre was on Letterman last night and it was revealed that he will be the athlete on the cover of Madden 2009.

Packers first day sees them trade down from #30 to #36 with the Jets, picking up a fourth-rounder in the process.

With the 36th pick, they surprisingly (or maybe not, for Ted Thompson) selected a wide receiver (one of the deepest positions on the team), Jordy Nelson from Kansas State. Nelson is thought to be a bit slow (4.51 40-yard dash) but has good size (6'2", 217 lbs) and can gain yardage after the catch.

At #56, the team had to be delighted to see Louisville QB Brian Brohm still on the board and they grabbed him. The team had not yet found a second stringer to back up Aaron Rodgers and this looks like a good pick.

With the 60th pick, the Packers finally addressed a need, taking Auburn CB Patrick Lee.

I didn't pay much attention to the draft today, but did Thompson actually (gasp) trade up today?

Twice!

Second day picks for the Packers include:

TE Jermichael Finley (Texas)

DE Jeremy Thompson (Wake Forest)

G-T Josh Sitton (Central Florida)

T Breno Giacomini (Louisville)

QB Matt Flynn (LSU)

WR Brett Swain (SD State)

They definitely needed a tight end. They spent seven of their nine picks on offense; I think they should have drafted another DB

Jeremy Thompson is the brother of current Packer OL Orrin Thompson.

Giacomini has had some legal issues (OWI) and was disciplined last year after flipping off the crowd when Louisville played Kentucky.

The Packers released WR Koren Robinson today; the move had been expected by some after the club drafted two wide receivers in the draft last month. While Robinson was a favorite of Brett Favre, he never seemed to offer much in the way of big play ability.

The Packers are reportedly one of four teams that attended a private workout for Kevin Jones, former Lions RB.

Curiously, the Lions are also said to have been in attendance.

The Packers have expressed no interest in former RB Najeh Davenport, who was released by Pittsburgh this week after finding no takers in trade talks.

Giacomini is a MA kid.....from Malden

he is one mean son of a gun

There hasn't been much written about him during the minicamps and OTAs. Not sure if that's a good sign or a bad sign.

I'm getting very tired of all the Favre talk on ESPN. Please just stay away Brett. The team has moved on.

GB's management is not in a fun position right now.

A couple things that are amazing about this situation: a) how much run-time it's getting in the media. Favre hasn't even made a statement, hasn't even said he wants to come back, and the media is all over it, and b) how evenly split the media seems to be. Some think the Packers should welcome him as starter, some think he should stay retired, some think the Packers should cut/trade him. Everyone has a different viewpoint.

IMO, if he comes back, Thompson has to keep him and have him start. PR nightmare if he gets cut or traded, especially if he does well and Rodgers sucks it up. But I hope Favre stays retired. I've moved on and wanna see how Rodgers can do (or Brohm if Rodgers fails).

The team was 1 game from the Super Bowl, I hardly want to start the rebuilding process now. I have zero confidence that A-Rodge can start 6 games in a row much less take this team into the playoffs. Tell Favre he has to commit to the last 2 years of his contract and get Brohm ready to take the reigns then.

The crux of the problem isn't whether Favre can or wants to play, it's the front offices failure to take control of the situation. If they don't want him back, and they apparently don't, TT and MM need to stand up on the podium and tell the world that Favre will be released/traded if he attempts to return.
