Only three real surprises in Round 1: Steve Carlton circa 1969 from the Cards and the two Mets grabs (Cleon Jones and Bob Ojeda). We don't think we've seen much of the St Louis y in legs past -- let alone seen him drafted (in the first round no less) -- and we don't think moneymen will be losing sleep trying to figure out replacements for Cleon and Ojeda. But far be it for us to raise eyebrows.

i'd agree with that, jose. for selfish purposes, i'll add jeff kent going to the red sox as a surprise...altho i shoulda been surprised that he didn't go earlier. also: sammy sosa lasting until the late teens (i thought about drafting him so i could have formidable bonds-sosa balco combo).

Fernando should be great for the Pads; I've had good results with him in HR-unfriendly parks.
