This is not official advice,
but I did ask Kelly about this situation last season and he told me that in situations like this, common sense does apply, and if it's obvious who the manager was picking, they will get that player.
For example: If you pick Babe Ruth #1, there are several you might have wanted thus you don't have one reserved until you put in the year. If you picked Silver King, where there is only one that makes any sense, that would be different.

I am sure Kelly will be able to confirm or correct me on this.
