Don't get me wrong randle, I don't disagree Bieksa is a good NHL defenseman. There's just no way I'd take him over Toews (or Kesler, or even Edler) on any team. I think comparing Bieksa's value to Toews' is like comparing former Canuck Bret Hedican to his former teammate, Rod Brind'Amour. Hedican was a solid defenseman who did everything well but nothing great, that any team would love to have on the back end. Brind'Amour was the type of leader that a team absolutely needs if they hope to win.
The difference is Bieksa is a very good complementary player who will help the Canucks immensely in their Cup run. Toews is an absolutely essential player if the Hawks hope to win on any given night, let alone a Stanley Cup. Without Bieksa, the Canucks still have guys like Kelser, Burrows, Edler, Ehrhoff and Hamhuis who can pick up the slack. When Toews is not in the Hawks lineup, they're simply not the same team both on and off the ice.
Anyway, of course all this is just my opinion, which you are absolutely free to disagree with, but I just wanted to clarify that I don't think Bieksa sucks. I just don't think his value to the Canucks is as great to Toews' value with the Hawks.
