Canucks Thread - We Still Believe Topic

Don't get me wrong randle, I don't disagree Bieksa is a good NHL defenseman. There's just no way I'd take him over Toews (or Kesler, or even Edler) on any team. I think comparing Bieksa's value to Toews' is like comparing former Canuck Bret Hedican to his former teammate, Rod Brind'Amour. Hedican was a solid defenseman who did everything well but nothing great, that any team would love to have on the back end. Brind'Amour was the type of leader that a team absolutely needs if they hope to win.

The difference is Bieksa is a very good complementary player who will help the Canucks immensely in their Cup run. Toews is an absolutely essential player if the Hawks hope to win on any given night, let alone a Stanley Cup. Without Bieksa, the Canucks still have guys like Kelser, Burrows, Edler, Ehrhoff and Hamhuis who can pick up the slack. When Toews is not in the Hawks lineup, they're simply not the same team both on and off the ice.

Anyway, of course all this is just my opinion, which you are absolutely free to disagree with, but I just wanted to clarify that I don't think Bieksa sucks. I just don't think his value to the Canucks is as great to Toews' value with the Hawks.

How is the player who leads your team in minutes played a complimentary player? Who is he complementing?

Maybe Toews is a complimentary NHL player. He's just there to make Bieksa look good.

He's complementing the Sedins, Ryan Kesler, Alex Edler and Dan Hamhuis, along with Luongo. That is the Canucks core IMHO. The last two seasons, the Canucks are a combined 29-12-2 with Bieksa out of the lineup. Doesn't look like they missed him too much.

Thankfully Luongo's brain crap didn't cost us the game. He's been pretty solid lately though. I like the way the team has been playing as a whole. 3 lines that can be rotated through is definalty an advantage for us.

The fact that the team went 29-12-2 without Bieksa is attributed more to our teams depth. I'm sure if you figure out winning %age's with Bieska in the line up it wouldn't change much. Too much math for me to figure out. If I was given the choice between Kevin Beiska and Christian Ehrhoff I'd stick with Kevin.

Bieksa once again beating up non-fighters. Class. Eager needs to throw more hits on the sisters in response

marleau should know better than to drop the gloves first  with the Champ..nice goal by Mr. Norris however

Eager is as smart as John Scott...put his team constantly shorthanded because he is too stupid to understand the importance of the game

Bieksa should kick the sh!t out of Marleau every game..get Eager some more ice

Bieksa's playoff fight card

Stalberg - win
Brouwer - loss
Marleau - win

2-1 vs non-fighters. Why doesn't he go Clowe if he's champ?

At least marleau didn't back down when Bieksa gave the glove shake and got em off quick. That's about all he did right though cause if he wanted to inspire the team, it didn't work. Obviously.
