Game 133: Tommy John throws one of his best games of the season, but he's outdueled by Washington's Jim Slaton, who throws six shutout frames and gets scoreless relief from his bullpen. Milwaukee is pathetic at the plate and drops a 1-0 decision.
Game 134: Willie Vegas hits a three-run pinch hit homer (his first longball of the season) in the ninth inning, giving the Riders a one-run lead, but Carl Yastrzemski ties things up in the bottom half with an RBI single off Darold Knowles. Milwaukee leaves men at the corners in the 11th, then sees Tim McCraw hit a leadoff homer in the 12th to win it for Washington.
Game 135: This one is close until the seventh, when Richie Hebner's grand slam touches off a six-run explosion for the Riders. Washington stages an eighth-inning rally, but can't crawl back far enough. Fred Norman picks up his third win in a 9-5 victory.
Milwaukee comes home to face the White Sox (81-54).
