Russell doesnt rank in the top 100 in blocks per 48minutes

I did search based on minimum 2900 minutes and ordered by block %, as realistically, these are the only guys I'll probably play at the pivot.

Even so, it still took a while to get to either Russell or Chamberlain. As I said before, that was the major negative that jumped out at me. Other than that, I'm very happy with everything else.

So is the sim offense run through the normalized (2pt%# and 3pt%#)?

Wow. My standard OL roster has dropped $7mil in salary - 17%! Now I have to completely re-do the entire roster .... WAAAAAA!!!!!

Kind of a shame, really. The open leagues are less interesting if every roster can be chock full of Hall-of-Famers and all-stars.

that's another philosophical debate/issue which will always be around. How much should the standard open league reflect real life rosters (one, maybe two great players, and average players plus scrubs) OR have a roster with multiple all-stars and HOFers?

While I appreciate realism to a point, how easy is it to draw in new business if it is too realistic?

OL should be harder to build, 1 or 2 stars should be the norm. IF you want HOFers and studs galore join the higher caps. Not directing this at you in general just answering the question at hand.

hurley is right i think. Currently, higher cap leagues are alot less interesting because even 47mil is alot of money with the new salary structure.

Anyone got an answer to this?

and there are those who make a persuasive argument that the site is based on the question, "What If Superstar A would've played with Superstar B and Superstar C?", not, "What If Superstar A would've played with Average B and Bench C?"

What if Michael Jordan had played alongside Chris Paul and Wilt?

not

What if Michael Jordan had played alongside M.L. Carr and Keith Erickson?

Which is more interesting? More exciting? More intriguing? Which will bring in more customers/business? A person new to the sim is going to join an open league - that is the recommendation of the site. They want to put together a dream team, answer the exciting What If questions, not the mundane ones. Then, once they are hooked, then you adjust salaried leagues up or down..

I don't know who was on your roster but overall the salary diff doesn't look that huge. The team I had dropped by less than 1.5mil. Maybe the players you had where among those who had a significant D rating drop.

Anyhow it's still not possible to afford 5 starting stars for full minutes under 42mil, which is fine. However we've just been through two salary adjustment in the last few months decreasing the overall avg of salaries. Let's not forget why this happened, because the "vocal" majority of customers were complaining that people didn't want to play a game full of scrubs...

Be careful what you wish for...

I'll have to draft a few more teams and see how the new leagues look like to fully realize what shape this is taking. I was fine with the way salaries were when I first joined, then I enjoyed being able to draft better players but I don't think it'd be a great idea to have 5 starting stars, this is why I enjoy 42mil OL and never felt like playing higher cap leagues.

Fair point, and I guess I can go either way...it's not my business to run, in the end. But I gotta say, I've been in a couple of $100 mil leagues and they were boring as ****, and even the $57 mil leagues are pretty tough to get excited about once you've seen the same lineups time after time. If salaries continue to drift downward overall, then I'll be hoping to see more challenging theme leagues with lower caps and/or blacklists. (benjihall's Joes not Pros league was awesome, for example.)

I think the sweet spot was around 47-52m prior to release - there are certainly alot of fun 57m leagues but usually they have blacklist or player exclusivity or some other way of limiting which players you can use - higher than 57 forget it - at some point as the cap goes too high all the teams start looking the same with all the same players

that said I have been one that for a long time has argued that the salaries were too high - I agree with much of what kfunk has so eloquently stated - keep in mind that prior to a couple of years ago there used to be thriving 30m cap culture but salary changes in the other direction more or less eradicated it

if you look at the majority of the theme leagues from the last 3 months (or even the last 3 years) they feature this star culture idea that kfunk is talking about - twist a given team of players to all thier best seasons, all the best players from a given franchise, twist any player season from any franchise etc - and boast caps higher than 42

and that just seems to say something about what the user wants - now we have new changes - let's see what happens

Well, any time someone starts a new theme league with interesting restrictions - blacklist, low cap, no Hall-of-Famers, whatever - I am more than likely to sign up for it.
9/5/2008 1:58 PM
bball jones, u can't afford 5 stars for full minutes for 42mil, but you can get 5 star starters with 17.5k minutes with 42mil.
