I'll start by saying Ruth, Gehrig and Kline were never considered because of their $10 million price tag. You want them, keep them.

I had hoped to find a position where you would be forced to double up with two costly players. I thought I had found that player in 3B Reno Bertoia of the 60 Senators. You would have had to keep two 3B's at around $10mil, but one of them could play 2B so you would still have some flexibility to go low with your two chosen guys at 2B.

I also thought about taking out SS Alvin Dark which would have left you with a couple $3M options as a starter but both players were adequate.

Next, I focused on 2B Tony Lazzeri. Very good at 2B but you have other options. Lazzeri's value is that he plays every position except for catcher.

Last, on to pitching which is where I decided to apply the dagger. It is between Sal Maglie who might be your best value as an SP or SP Jim Hearn who only pitched 132 innings but could carry your bullpen if you used him as a reliever. Both cost about the same at $5.7M but at that cost it might be more difficult to get value out of a 130 inning RP.

So...I'll go with the more solid value and dagger P Sal Maglie.

The Polo Grounds is one of my favorite fields in WIS, so if I don't play there, you don't either.

After looking I decided I must indeed Dagger the fan favourite

1960 Mickey Mantle New York Yankees

Position: OF
Salary: $7.52M

You can say Goodbye to the Brownies
Sportsman's Park (III)
St. Louis, MO
St. Louis Browns
I reinstate this Dagger as I withdrew it but it is the 2nd Dagger where a Team is chosen

Also I chose him as he is usable at that salary

Sorry midknight but I would of course had Mantle in OF at Saint Louis where I went to college

Redcped,

Some people benefit from the help of others. They might be gifted weak teams like the Bees or Pirates, but even those teams had great players at C, 1B, 3B or OF, and plenty of cheap options. Other people help themselves to great teams like the White Sox & Yankees, benefitting from tons of great SP and great sluggers at most positions.

Other people benefit from the misfortune of others. Imagine it is 1935, and you are trying to make a name for yourself in baseball. Wouldn't it be helpful if a line drive off hit someone else's head and then fell straight into your glove to set up a triple play? Wait for the triple play at the bottom of this.

Three years later, a "sickening" collision between Joe DiMaggio and rookie Joe Gordon sends both to the hospital with concussions. The same smug bench warmer who lucked into a triple play takes over at 2B. The Yankees win seven games and the bench warmer gets another year.

The next year he gets a World Series ring and nearly 10x times the salary of the average fan, while appearing in only six games. The year later, his improved production (or perhaps his paltry $706,995 salary) attract the future attention of salary cap conscious GM. That's nearly 2 million cheaper than Crosetti and 5 million cheaper than his stable of solid shortstops. Even with the smug cheap benchwarmer, the best roster builds are several million over the cap.

Had this benchwarmer SS (with 2B experience) survived the dagger round, he could have had nice careers in his remaining 23 years. He might have played for the White Sox & Athletics before returning to the minors and joining the military. He might have made enough money selling liquor to underage kids at Camp Crystal Lake to move to California and open a cafe. Instead, Bill Knickerbocker will not survive the dagger round on this Friday the 13th.

Do you need a CLUE to guess "who done it" in this triple play?

Jason's mom, with the machete, on the visitor's bench of Braves field.

Locals whisper to stay away from Nickeson field (site of the ruins on the Boston University campus) at night.

A nice deep pull on that triple play, Beernoser. I didn't know that story! We'll miss Bill for sure with that special talent he has.

eman7400, you may dagger from my 1940 White Sox. Tough call, and I suspect I know where it will land. But I think it's the least bad thing I can deal with.

For Ribbentrop You did a great job with pitching depth so no one dagger would really make a difference. I also took a long look at your backup infielders I almost pulled the trigger on 1b Art Shires as your only cheap 1b but I noticed Royals 1b Bob Oliver has very good defence at 3b so I went back to the drawing board. Most of the time it might be counter productive to dagger a 8.6mil player when you can easily spread money over a few different players but not in this case the best SS from your first 3 teams was a .218 average Mark Belanger so you took the 1930 Senators with your 4th pick hoping to fill that need So say goodbye to SS Joe Cronin 1930

For Stadiums I am going to dagger KC Municipel Stadium.

You have a very interesting mix of hitters with a couple of stars to choose from but mostly a lot of guys that I would give a B- or a C+ grade. Plenty of starting options at relatively low options. Possibly several platoon situations for you to employee.

The 70 Twins and the 70 Mets give you some decent quality pitching options at SP and RP.

At 3B you really only have two options at 3B: Killebrew and Eddie Yost. Both provide a decent bat and high OBP, but Killebrew is your only real power bat. Say goodbye to 3B Harmon Killebrew and his 41 dingers.

You have two pitcher's parks and two hitter's parks to choose from. Since I believe pitching is your strength I am going to dagger Shea Stadium. If you go with Griffith to bolster your pitching, I think your offense will struggle. If you go with Metropolitan or Fenway, you may mitigate your perceived team strength.

Good luck!
