POTSDAM (JP) — Powered by twin 17-point performances from Zachary Zubik and Arnold Trapani, Clarkson University posted its first win in two seasons, defeating McMurry, 50-48.
Coach jaredpaventi, in between shots of Jack Daniels, expressed confusion. “Wait. We beat them? How’s that possible? We don’t have a f**king center!” Apparently, the coach thought he booked Division III runner-up MacMurray for the exhibition date. Instead, he scheduled McMurry College. Located in Abilene, Texas, the American Southwest Conference squad posted a 6-21 record in Season 20.
Zubik keyed the win with a 10-15 performance from the free-throw line. Trapani pulled down a career-high nine rebounds and was 7-8 from the charity stripe. Clarkson’s 34 rebounds marked its highest total since Season 19 and was the first time in three years it outrebounded its opponent, posting a 34-27 margin.
Poor shooting continues to plague the Clark Bars, as they shot a meager 30.4 percent from the field. Leading the charge in the bricks column were shooting guard Joseph Bernard (1-8 from the field, 1-7 for three-pointers) and Zubik (3-11, including 1-8 for threes).
Before ordering another round of Jack, coach jaredpaventi remarked, “It’s a God Da**ed shame this one didn’t count.”
The 21st season of Clarkson basketball begins tonight at 2 a.m., when the Bars head to Pennsylvania for a matchup against No. 24-ranked Lycoming.
