Iowa's a TOUGH Big 10 team, and I'd be lying if I said I expected a win here. We played well, but ultimately, their press forced a good amount of turnovers and we couldn't quite get over the hump. Senior retrospectives will come later this week.

First impressions (page 7): He's got great potential in all the right areas, and will turn into an excellent pass-first PG. The lone gripes I have about him are his rebounding and FT shooting, but those are minor. I really like him, and while he won't be an NBA prospect, he'll be excellent for the system here.

Final impressions: Schaefer is probably the most complete PG I've recruited here at J-State. Apologies to Wilbur Taylor and Frederick Roskovensky, but Schaefer could also score, play tough defense, and start fast breaks in the other direction. He'll be missed.

RECORDS: 5th in assists (366), 6th in steals (94)

FT Shooting A-

First impressions (page 7): He was a primary target from the get-go, and I spent over $29,000 on him in battling Alabama State. I had to promise him 15 minutes, but in the end, I got my guy. Simply put, he's a phenomenal prospect for a zone team. Not only is he an offensive force, but he also has an insane touch from the FT line. I'm very happy to have him, and he'll be a dominant player down the road.

Final impressions: Fuller had "mid-major star" written on him from the get-go. A player like this would now be considered a top-50 recruit nationally, but back in April, he slipped under the radar, mostly due to his then-poor defense. That was improved tremendously, though, and he could be an NBA prospect despite it still not being top-notch. He's easily the best player I've had here, and he really leaves behind a gaping hole in the frontcourt.

RECORDS: 2nd in points (1,291), 3rd in rebounds (748), 8th in blocks (160), 1st in FG% (56.2%), 2nd in FT% (80.1%)

FT Shooting C

First impressions (page 7): He's listed as a PF, but he'll be a 3-4 hybrid for us due to his decent speed and "wing" stats. I wish he had high potential in low-post, but as it stands now, he's a good prospect. He won't play much his first year, but he'll eventually be a solid member of this team.

Final impressions: As a PF, Fiorillo would have been just-OK. But when moved to SF, he became a very good #2/#3 scoring option the past two seasons. Versatility is a great trait to have, and Fiorillo became a really nice player because of it.

RECORDS: 5th in FG% (52%)

There are a TON of Big 6 conference openings this season, and I'm (get ready) ACTUALLY QUALIFIED for several of them. I've already applied to one, and a few more might follow if it doesn't work out. This team loses a LOT next year with the three best players leaving, and with me actually qualified to move up, now seems like the time to do it.

EDIT: Denied at Seton Hall. This was by far my first choice, as they went 18-11 last season and brought everyone back for next year. I have a few more options, though, and sent out two more applications this cycle.

Texas Tech announces hiring of bomberball as new head coach of men's basketball. Jacksonville St. officials unavailable for comment.

-----

As I have done with my other tracking threads, I will update the senior retrospectives when my players come up for graduation. That said, this would have been a rebuilding year of sorts at J-State, and given how badly the only rebuilding year I had here set me back, I wasn't going to wait if an enticing opportunity came along. T-Tech wasn't quite Seton Hall, but it fit the bill.

In a mild shock, Fuller was drafted #34 to the Pacers. Nice to see a guy I recruited get selected.

So, whatever happened to Bomberball? I thought this was kind of a cool idea.

2/7/2011 7:22 PM
Just saw this post. achampa1 = bomberball, and I left due to a combination of several things. Between money being tight, and several issues I had with the new engine, it was time to step away. There's always the chance of a comeback, though, and if I do return, so will the tracking threads.
