Hey everyone,
I wanted to refresh all returning owners' memories and alert the new guys as to the individual player salary cap restrictions that we agreed upon in the first season.
In an attempt to prevent the one-and-done owners that wreck a franchise and to encourage league parity and discourage a FA market that quickly outgrows some teams' budgets, we agreed that:
NO PLAYER SIGNED TO A CONTRACT DURING SEASONS 1 & 2 OF THE NABCL CAN HAVE ANY SINGLE SEASON OF THAT CONTRACT EXCEED $12M IN VALUE (INCLUDING SIGNING BONUS).
The penalty for an owner disregarding this ruling is a $25 GC immediately forwarded to the commissioner in order to help secure a new team for the following season should that owner bail. If the owner stays in the league until the "bad" contract is up, I would return that GC (or send a new one for the same $ value) to the owner who committed the cap violation.
We had one instance in season one which was likely due to my unclear representation of the rule. The owner was game and complied with the ruling and is returning for season 2 (cosmicblob).
AS A WARNING, THE PLAYER HE SIGNED GOT HURT AND MISSED THE ENTIRE SEASON!!!!!
So, this isn't just my rule, clearly the HBD Gods agree with the rule and found the contract insulting. ;-)
If you have questions or concerns, please voice them in the NABCL thread (if you want your feelings to be known) or reply via sitemail and I can raise the concern to the group and you can remain anonymous.
Thanks for reading this long *** sitemail.
