I would also like to ask everyone as they have time to delete all posts before round 12. The completed rounds pick by pick are available on the roster thread and we need to keep this thread open so we don't have to start a new thread to finish the draft

for the first round only, the players are exclusive to their actual rookie year team. Obviously, this only affects players who didn't play for the same team their whole careers. The players who played for the same team their whole careers would still be assigned a "pick-by" number.

This will allow teams to have a shot at players who excelled for their first teams, but moved on towards the end of their careers. Some examples from the past would be Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. To a lesser extent, Tom Seaver would be one also.

It could also set up some very tough decisions. For instance, say Molitor and Yount were rookies in the same season. Yount would be an exclusive with a "pick-by" number of 1. However, Milwaukee would also have the rights to Molitor for the first round. The manager has to decide which great player is better for his team and he won't get both.

If you like the idea, post it and let Larry know. Also, express your willingness to do this for this year's rookie draft or not until next year's rookie draft.

I don't want to see anymore rule changes at this point... too many decisions were made in this initial draft to change the rules for the rookie draft. I will tell you right now, if this rule gets passed for this rookie draft you'll need to find a new owner for the Dodgers.

The change I'd like to see, starting with the'73 rookie class, would be for Larry not to spoon feed us the list of eligible players...we should have to research them ourselves... Larry would just need to confirm their eligibility.

since he is not Brewers eligible I will go ahead and post

via proxy Minnesota Twins select of Jim Holt...confirmed

as per league rules I told pirate_dave that he was more than welcome to try and find a second and third on his rule proposition and I would bring it to a vote. I also told ennam_IV that he could get a second and a third on his proposition to table all further rules change discussion until next season and I would bring it to a vote

In an executive decision I have decided that you must have a second and a third to bring any proposition up for a vote. I do want every owner in this league to feel comfortable in voiceing their opinions on things that can make this a better league. That is what will determine if the league is successful or not. There will be bumps in the road and like family we will have quarrels but if we can deal with whatever comes before us and constantly try to improve this league I believe there will be hours of enjoyment for all. I look forward to your input either on the thread or via siteamail. I again ask that as you have time to delete all posts prior to round 12 and we made need to do that agin later. Thanks-The Commish

My pick cannot be taken by Mil. Do I still need to wait on him or can I go ahead and pick?

Gp ahead if he isn't brewer eligible

I put in my post that it may not go in for this rookie draft, but it could be instituted for the next rookie draft.

Schaal confirmed

ever since I started running multi season leagues I have said that if an owner can get a majority vote he can get a rule changed for the good of the league and I'm not backing down from that now however dave I would much prefer to do this next season especially since it has been pointed out that there has already been a trade of #1 picks

Once we start season 1 rules change discussion will begin at the all-star break and votes are to be complete by the transaction deadline

as for now dave you can still try and get together a vote or ennam or someone can make a motion to halt all rules discussions until next season ...either way

I am going to post tomorrows times now because unless we hear from abriggster we are done for the night

Thanks to all-LL

I second ennam's motion for no more rule changes this draft

I do not want any rule changes either. I do understand your thought process but i am not sure letting the Phillies have Sandberg as an exclusive over the Cubs is right.

Sorry I'm late, but I guess at this point it doesn't matter. I'll take Bob Heise, SS.

I put in my original post, it was probably too late for this season's rookie draft. However, what about instituting this change for next season's rookie draft?

Also, we could add a stipulation that the player had to have played his first 5 or 6 or 7 years with his original team; otherwise, he's not exclusive for the first round.

Now that I've had a little time to think about this one too I don't think its best for the league. The order of the rookie drafts starting in '73 is going to be worst to first... and I feel that a rule like this would potentially further hurt the teams who would need the most help. The guys at the top of this draft (the worst teams) will need all the help they can get... and really, each rookie class there will only be one impact player per club, if that even... and if this rule kicked in, then it would potentially keep that "worst" team from getting the help they need...
