Rule V Leg #34 Draft Thread Topic

FWIW, I was considering Hernandez briefly before I decided to keep Votto.

Nope, Hernandez has not been drafted in the last 10 legs.  Nor has he been kept by the Cardinals owner. As, at best, the #3 first baseman for the franchise, it's doubtful that he's been used much by the Cards, so unless he was drafted away in some leg before #25, it's likely he hasn't seen a lot of Rule V playing time.

The last 17 seasons are linked in the Team Center, so once we get started and he's on the Royals roster, we can use "Player Search" to check his past season stats (not draft record, of course).
And there's the first jeer from the peanut gallery!
Did that sound like a jeer?  I thought it was pretty objective analysis!

And I'd argue that newarkwilder's digging showed it to be correct, too. In the last 17 legs, Hernandez has been kept or drafted once, used by the Cardinals after being unprotected and undrafted once, and (different guy entirely) used by the Mets after being unprotected and undrafted once.

But, honestly, shaybee -- you're better at this than most of us, so if Hernandez has success for you I expect he'll be a popular draft pick from now on.

Perhaps a mild snicker rather than a jeer, but I was expecting some of both.  I had no fewer than eight other players on my list to take above Hernandez ("He's Keith Hernandez Jerry!") but all were gone or unpickable by the time I picked.

I think it's difficult to say how he'll do for me, but he seems to "fit" Kauffman better than my own options at 1B (with all due respect to Mike Sweeney, John Mayberry, and of course, Bob "The Hammer" Hamelin), and by taking Rollins in the first round I pretty much went all in for a "players best suited to my home park" strategy, so I figured what the heck?  That, plus I can quite Seinfeld all season - which sealed the deal...

I know that I'm pretty pleased to have both Murcer and Petrocelli who were two of my favorite players during my late teens and early 20's. First time I've ever gotten them both. Each time I have had either of them they have been Rule V studs. of course now, jinxed by the Philly curse, they will both probably suck. c'est la vie.!

The Dodgers can use a CF who can go get it, so we'll take Al Bumbry - BAL

Wow! I have been in this league for probably 25 legs and this could be the first or second time I have ever seen Al Bumbry  taken as a rule v pick. serious cojones there amigo.

Well, there were some other guys I would have rather taken, but when you draft this late, you don't have that many team options.  A+ range, good on-base, and good speed, so we'll see how he does.

Nothing personal, just trying to fill the Astros gaping hole (and it gets tougher with some many teams off the board)

As soon as specs makes his pick, we'll be done with the second round.  Start getting those keepers in.  Only one of you could possibly have to re-submit.
