jbar8888 - the only thing I could see that might hurt is making you spend a little extra on a back-up C, so Tim McCarver can hang up his microphone.

People have all day today for Dagger 2, but need to offer a team if they have not.
Starting tomorrow, I will pester people individually so we can get rolling.

Ribbentrop, it makes sense to offer the 1940 Phillies for a dagger because they are so slippery. When I try to build with your players, most of the Phillies end up as bench slots and you have redundancy at each position where a Philly is the cheapest. Mostly RP and OF. If anything, you might be forced to use Phillies on the bench where another player could be sliightly cheaper. But not much.

I found two players worth starter consideration. Billy Bragan is comparable to Mark Belanger, although might place some pressure on your use of better 1970 Orioles.

The other is SP Kirby Higbe. He is similar to Jim Palmer but saves 500k for similar innings. This seems a better source of Oriole pressure to me than SS, so that's what I decided to do.

Higbe was an all star that year, and was traded to Brooklyn for $100k, which was a huge sum back then. But after helping them reach the World Series, he left to serve in WW2 and was not as strong after returning. He also divorced during that time (although he remarried). He was particularly vocal in opposition to Jackie Robinson, which would create some massive clubhouse tension if these players were not sims. He did work later as ..... a prison guard.

So, Higbe might be the player in your pile who most seriously needed to be hit with cupid's dagger.

whalers10 is set up quite nicely with position players and decent back-ups. He also has decent starting pitchers available, although relief pitching could be a problem. It's hard to find a weak spot to exploit - and which of the '40 Senators he might miss the most.
I considered 3B Cecil Travis and OFs Buddy Lewis and George Case as dagger candidates but in each case there are good options elsewhere.
Since it appears that whalers10 will be using a several pitchers from the '40 Reds, I ended up deciding to force him to use of one of his 6 (or 7) roster spots from those '40 Reds on a back-up at SS (Billy Myers). It should make it a little harder to keep one of those good pitchers from the '40 Reds and might effect your roster decisions all around.
Good Luck - you'll have a good team and I'm glad you're not in my division...

Midknight, I have tried to find a way to screw you with the 1970 Detroit Tigers, and it's quite a puzzle.

Their best pitcher is John Hiller, and he's nothing great. You won't be using many Tiger arms anyway.

You have plenty of similar catchers, so no use dinging Freehan or even his cheap backup Price. You can work around those just fine.

There's no scenario I see where you're using Norm Cash at 1B, so nothing to see there. You have no one cheaper than $1.7M and have to get creative, but Cash is an unlikely piece of that plan.

There's a high likelihood you use 1 or even 2 of the Tigers at 2B, where your options are all pretty weak anyway. A potential spot.

I don't think you'll care if Elliot Maddox or Don Wert disappears from the options at 3B.

You only have 4 shortstops. The Tigers' Gutierrez is the cheapest at $1.7M, but the Browns also have a $1.9M one. You'll be eating some salary here regardless. Maybe you play Kubek in the outfield? I dunno, but I'm not sure taking Gutierrez away makes it all that much harder. But maybe ...

Outfield is intriguing, as you have one cheap guy plus potentially two guys from other positions competing for time since you have no cheap backups at 1B or SS. There are four Tigers outfielders, none of them cheap. Horton, Kaline and Northrup are somewhat interchangeable, and Stanley is the best defender (though not your only option in CF). I could take Horton away since he's the least expensive and a slightly better bat.

What I see as your biggest challenge on this team now is how to use the Indians and Yankees spots most effectively. The Yankees have 5 of your best pitching options, plus Kubek and Maris that you'd probably like to use. The Indians have 2 of your best pitchers, your best 1B and 3B and your best cheap options at a few positions. So I guess the best thing I can do is force you into a harder choice with one of those teams. ... Except I built out this roster as I would have done it, and I'm flummoxed as to which player would cause the most trouble to lose.

Since I can't determine anywhere I can cause real pain, I'll just take another of your best hitters (and a great value) out of the mix and dagger OF Willie Horton. I suspect you won't be too bothered by it, but you'll hopefully let me know sometime if this caused any trouble.
As the second daggers go, it was a good one. I had mapped out both Kaline and Horton as starters in my OF. Losing Horton took away a good bat and forced me to do a fair amount of shuffling of my team. I think at the end of the day I lost some offense and something no one ever said about Horton, some defense. Not in the OF, but probably at 3B where I will likely now play Hector Lopez out of position.

Vilefileman, you've got a ton of pitching, but you'll need to be very creative to fill out your position players (especially at 1B). I see your best Montreal Expos assets as C John Bateman because he has the most PAs and if you can't roster him, you probably don't have enough PAs to take C Joe Garagiola, your cheapest option at C. The next asset is 3B Bob Bailey who is a little light on PAs but sports over a .1000 OPS. Finally, you have great pitching and could use the salary relief of RP Joe Sparma at a little over $201K. In the end, it's not even close. You can have Sparma and Bateman but you will have to do without 3B Bob Bailey and his bat. Good luck.

No rush, but once you have your team built, please paste it here for confirmation.
I and others can check it, and I would appreciate if a returning player could double check mine.
Also, if any returning player has a previous league number, could you share it with me? Searches are not finding the prior template.

Screw teams and daggers all did a good job. My weakness is the bullpen and the first dagger hit that hard. In fact my last roster moves were trying to get a few extra dollars so I can improve my bullpen. I ended up with three relievers with 40 innings or less. We'll see. The second dagger hitting Yaz hurt as I dreamed of Yaz's 452 OBP batting in front of my two Franks, Robinson and Howard. I expect my team to be okay but not great.
