For team eligibility, how would a guy like this work?

He played the first 7.2 seasons with Toledo/Cincy, then the next 5.8 with NY2, spent a year in Detroit, and now is back in NY2. If he stays in NY next season, NY would've had him for 7.8 seasons, but not consecutively.

If he gets elected, would he represent NY2 or Toledo/Cincy

Can we get any confirmation about what else is going into the update? Such as prospect-budget limitations?

They specified GAMES PLAYED as the deciding factor.

That Haywood Towers example is great. Perfect example of a guy hanging around too long and ruining his own Hall eligibility. If not for that final season in Milwaukee, he would've had the 150 IP average he needed. Or if he could've mustered 2 more All-Star appearances or just 1 more Cy Young he'd be an automatic nominee. That's heartbreaking.

Ok, does it mention anywhere that multiple tours of duty with a franchise get added together, or are they treated as seperate?

It may make some sense to drop the limits for SPs. Again, if we decide to do this it's very easy and it should encompass these fringe type player's.

Because I know some of you are wanting to bust chops over the SP/RP nomination minimums, I tried to think of a couple of guys who might not make the HBD HOF. Smoltz and Eckersley came to mind. But both would qualify.

Can anyone think of a HOF-material guy in MLB who would have failed to qualify in HBD? Because, without that, it looks like WifS did some research and figured it out for us.

He'd qualify anyway because of Cy Youngs and All-Star appearances, but if Pedro Martinez were to pitch less than 20 innings this year, he'd drop under the 150/year average.
1/19/2010 3:24 PM
Then he's not a good example. I just can't think of anyone.

Admittedly, this is more of a problem for players who were already into their careers at world creation. give haywood the five seasons he missed, he probably increases his average or gets enough awards that it doesn't matter. but those guys are the guys most of us got attached to while we were getting attached to this game, so it seems weird leaving them out completely.

I think, due to the nature of HBD, that a lot of players miss out on A/S games, gold gloves and silver sluggers. Seems like the way we use players is going to hurt some for the HOF.

The fact that I'd like the HOF to be fairly exclusive, in RL and HBD, means a couple of guys falling thru the cracks won't bother me.
1/19/2010 3:33 PM
Also, WiS shouldn't be telling us who is or isn't HOF material. The individual worlds should be deciding that for themselves.

If they want to cull out some names so the list isn't unwieldy, that's fine, but don't eliminate borderline guys who could be fun to debate over.

Why not just make it a flat limit, as somebody in my world suggested?

If you played 10 seasons and reached 4000 PA, 1500 innings or 500 games pitched, you can be nominated.

I'm sure that list of players wouldn't be too unwieldy.

Those SP/RP requirements could potentially screw over a player like http://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=37494

He's currently over the 50G threshold, but a few seasons below that and he'll no longer be eligible, even though I believe he's clearly a HOFer. It will be moot if he can get 1 more AS appearance, but if he doesn't...then what?
