ptt you need to sign some big names to get back in the mix.  if i were you i would sign every one of those guys that are 80 overall and better and 34 or younger.  this will improve your team immediately allowing you to compete this season and still allow you to develop all your youngsters.   also i think the auto-set lines is a mistake.  put your best guys on the top lines.  i like your goalies but your coach has a VERY low INT rating which I believe is the stat that wins close games
As for the roster, I'm not willing to sacrifice ice time for the young guys just to bring in some hired guns, even if that costs me wins.  It's just how I roll.

Auto lines has proven to give me mixed results at best.  I only went to it out of starting a season 0-4 back in the early days when I thought I had put together the best lines possible.  Left me a little afraid, and then I got lazy with the auto lines.  I have done my own lines and updated my tactics after investing heavily in training once I was knocked out of the playoffs.  Our game tomorrow night will be the first test of just how far I still have to go.

My goalies are my backbone, and if I weren't going to be offline for most of the next 2-3 weeks (will check in when I can) I would rotate all 3 and let the cream rise.

I'm aware of my coach shortcomings.  But I liked him better than anyone I saw in the Ted Nolan Pool.

With regards to me not being around much, speedy used to have my phone number.  He can reach me if something with either league should need my immediate attention.  Or if you or brain would like my number, I can sitemail it to one of you.

My offline adventure begins with a visit from a woman from the land of disco and the dead man.  She arrives tomorrow night, gets some ptt, and heads home sunday....................

.........good times, noodle salad!

That's one of my favorite things about my experience in the superleague is seeing brian and probie both dominate with different approaches.

I think it's now safe to say speedy is in the mix there as well.  Curious to see if he can repeat and be a fulltime member of the big dog clan.

Meanwhile, I wait.  And wait.  And wait.  Hoping I've got the right mix, anxious for them to mature into a force to be reckoned with, eager for a breakthrough season that may never come considering the big brains on my counterparts.
That IS an insanely cool part of this game, whether by accident or design. There's no 'cookie-cutter' (like the hockey SIM).

I won Superleague Season7, Probie Season 8, and Speedy Season 9. And none of us do anything like either of the others.

Probie says offensive guys are forwards, defensive guys are defensemen. I say fast guys are forwards, strong guys are defensemen. He traded me his 4th-line center, I made a top pair defenseman out of him. If I were to trade him Kirbo (1st line C) or Lacio (2nd line RW) from the Maroons, he'd make defensemen out of them.

Probie has no problem picking up older players I think should retire.

Probie says coach's intelligence wins close games. I think it's stamina. I wont have <80 stamina on either of my top two line or my top D pair, and the higher the better. His brainiac coach has two Cup wins, my dumbass has three.

Speedy and I had a sitemail discussion about the draft (Wylie was on the clock ahead of me and I didn't want to post my pick openly). We traded top-3 lists, not one player was on both. We discussed it, he looks for exactly the opposite things in young prospects as I do. I draft size and speed, figuring the offense, defense and shooting will go up faster because they also improve through game attribute up. I don't worry a whole bunch about potential, I figure a draft pick has near unlimited potential with or without the number. Speedy wants offense, defense and potential, and if his guy's offense and defense go through the roof while he's slow and weak, he's OK with that. His philosophy.

It can be hard to do trades among us, because we value our own and each other's players so differently. I've tried to get Drenner from Speedy in the Superleague 1000 times, and made him what I thought were damned good offers. He sent a sitemail back telling me I was offering ****, and had to do WAY better if I wanted Drenner. When I cut my backup goalie with my starter still hurt, Probie offered me his backup goalie for my 1st-line LW. Probably thought he was being generous. No way I was making that deal. Counter-offered my top-line LW for his 4th line C, he probably thinks he robbed me, but from my point of view, I got an OK deal, my top-line LW for a top-pair defenseman. Also five years younger and less than half the salary.

it should be noted that the board doesn't completely turn over. you will only see new faces if you take some guys off the board yourself
7/13/2011 2:13 PM
yeah, it just creates new players to replace the one's that have been signed.
7/13/2011 2:16 PM
oh. ok.  i was expecting a completely new batch of doods.
7/13/2011 2:22 PM
so a strategy can be, (as long as you're still in newbie creation protection mode) sign anyone and everyone.

Then the top of next hour, see who was created to re-fill the pool. Cut the junk, sign the good new players, lather, rinse repeat. We did that when we first stocked the Superleague teams. Sleepy and I would sign as many players as we had money for, just to keep turning over the free agent pool.

ONLY do that, if you're getting refunds on the players you cut. If it's actually costing you money to buy out contracts, you're not in newbie mode anymore.
7/13/2011 2:23 PM
the whole new batch of doods will happen the morning after the finals. That's what I meant by take the best of this bunch, and if you don't fill your roster, that's OK. There'll be another 120 or whatever guys freshly created when the offseason begins.
7/13/2011 2:25 PM

ok, i got ya. so how do I know if im in the newbie protection mode?

7/13/2011 2:36 PM
you SHOULD still be since you haven't assigned a coach to your lineup or played a game.

But to be safe. Sign the cheapest guy you can find to the shortest contract you can. Then dump him. Watch your bank account. If you get his signing bonus back, you're OK. If it charges you 50% of his remaining contract to do it, you're screwed. You're playing for real.
7/13/2011 2:46 PM
We are playing for real! No refund here!
7/13/2011 2:49 PM
Damn, wish you could change these **** *** pictures too.  That dood look stupid as phuq!
7/13/2011 2:56 PM
if you do not have a team set up when the playoffs start you will not get a draft pick
