dcpeterso, I want to welcome you to the league. Sadly, one of your players does not share my attitude, so I will be rescinding his invitation to the event - but I have to find the ingrate first!

Most of your catchers are grateful, and the 2nd cheapest isn't much more - but Bill Dickey seems suspiciously talented.
You have 3 exceptional 1B folks, but Ray Webster is uniquely cheap, so his welcome gift might not impress.
Your 2B options are surprisingly similar in profle.
At 3B, no oe is cheap or great, but the cheapies are simlar.
At SS, Campy thinks he is way better than others. He is probably right.
In the OF, Jim Wynn's prowess isn't that far above your 4th option and there are 5 players under a million.
There is a gap at SP between Red Ruffing ad your 5th place option, but the same is true for other Yankees you might need.
You have a couple of really good RP, but also some pretty capable alternatives and again, many cheap options.

So, do we retract the invitation for an overperforming C or SS, or do we deny you a cheap 1B and let the budget stress run its course? I think the latter, since my preferred builds from your player pile are running over budget.

Ray Webster (1968 A's) gets dagger #1, and the Griffith Stadium (all of your parks have similar factors). Hopefully the remaining players will buy you better welcome gifts than "Cheapskate Ray".

I’m loving these dagger write ups! Keep ‘em coming.

And a big reminder that before you make any second daggers, you read the first breakdown carefully. My suggestion is you actually try to build their roster and see where it’s really difficult. Then drop that second dagger where it can find a mark.

midnight, you only have 4 guys at 3b, none of them are cheap but Ken Keltner is your best player so I'll dagger him and force you to roster 2 of the other 3. And I will dagger the Blue Jays' Exhibition Stadium.

Well played _jwillis

I'd like to extend a warm welcome to our new neighbor Preeves22.
Looking at his teams, there's one player that jumps out as someone I don't want to face whenever our teams meet. That would be SS Ernie Banks 58 Chicago Cubs. He still has a good 4.4 mil Robin Yount as a consolation prize.
Also, say goodbye to your best pitcher's park County Stadium.

Ribbentrop (daggered by _jwillis)

I did not have to think long to know what team to choose
For the Second Dagger I shall proffer _jwillis

The 1948 Pirates ... They stink

Charles Barkley would say they have a plethora of ambrosia (Pitchers)

My update:

Waiting to dagger mavioric12 who is 24 hours overdue in posting his 4th team. In fact, he has made zero posts in this entire thread and has not picked up any of the sitemails I have sent him.

Also, waiting to be daggered by PReeves22. He too has made zero posts in this entire thread and has not picked up any of the sitemails I have sent him.

I will be traveling to Phoenix on Thursday and spending a week there with limited access.

Weird draft.

Ribbentrop, I see why you gave me the 1948 Pirates. They're bad, and there's nobody here that you absolutely can't live without. That said, I still think you've got at least two likely starters in this lineup.

There's Danny Murtaugh, who is basically your classic punch-and-judy second baseman. Good fielder, slap hitter, draws enough walks to make himself useful. He isn't as slick with the glove as Horace Clark, but he's a much better hitter. He's actually quite similar to Frank White, your other 2B option, just a little better almost everything, which justifies the fact that he's $1M more expensive.

Then there's the big fella, Ralph Kiner. He's your second-most expensive position player, behind only Amos Otis, but he's arguably your best overall hitter, since Otis derives a lot of his value on defense. He's also the only real home run threat on any of your teams, since Wreck-It Ralph cranked 40 dingers and nobody else on your four teams even made it to 25. While most of his value comes from his big stick, you've got the 25-year-old version of Kiner here, so he's surprisingly spry on defense as well.

I do wonder if Murtaugh actually fits better into your team's build. You lost out on Royals Park, but you've still got Yankee Stadium and Forbes Field, both of which will play well with your slap-hitting, defensively-minded group. Still, Danny Murtaugh doesn't strike fear in the hearts of opposing pitchers, and Ralph Kiner does. So in the end, the simplest answer turns out to be the best one.

1948 Ralph Kiner is OUT.

I instantly thought you would choose Kiner --- seemed logical at $6,094,737 ... And of course saw Murtaugh and possible Starter at SS Stan Rojek $4,680,605 ... Was a sacrifice so to speak but in this League Good Pitching is more of a problem

People in their 1st or second league seem to be denied access to the forums. C_Burns02 is in the same boat, claytonengel and lennyistall have just now been able.
I have been in touch with Mav and expect a pick today.

It's kind of late to be bringing that fact up, but this is not a league for brand new players. This takes some advanced understanding of roster building and strategy. I would not have joined a league like this in my first year or so on the site. People should start with a few open leagues just to get the feel for how to play this game.

Follow-up to the above ...

I went ahead and checked owner cards, and it looks like we have 5 people in this league who have 0-2 full seasons under their belt. It's not an ideal situation to put that many completely new players into a league with complex rules and veteran owners who understand the subtleties. At least now I know why picks kept flowing through the commish and why we've had so many unnecessary delays and questionable picks.

If I had known ahead of time, I would not have played this season. But I'll see it through now because of where we are.

ah, I dunno. I hear what you are saying but my son, who is 15 stepped in and made 3day's picks with little help from me. You just gotta pay attention and like puzzles. I think we'll be fine and we are prepping guys for future iterations. Everyone is welcome but if you get beat by the 15 year old (he's creeping up on my golf game and beat me at March Madness brackets...), I warned you!
