I can't believe how absurdly partisan this whole thing has become.

Conservatives are trying to defend Trump for firing Comey. That's absurd.

Liberals are trying to make this story about Trump sharing "classified information" that dealt with international security with another major nation. That's equally absurd. There is a well-established precedent that the President may share such information at his discretion. It's not illegal. It's not even unusual. The Trump administration is 100% right on this one - the story is absolutely about how the press ever got word of this happening. That indicates an illegal leak. The amount of detail on this classified information that is now in the public record as a result of this event is evidence of an illegal leak.

After all the supposed scandals, lies, and failures, Trump is still better than any Democrat. Of course, Dems are so busy trying to slander the Repubs that they haven't even taken the time to formulate a plan for the future. Is that how you want your Party run? Not me. That's why as a registered Democrat since 18 (over 34 years), later today I'll be going to vote for every single Republican who cross-filed and nobody else (Closed Primary State). I want no part of the hatred and bias and hand-outs.
Talk about hypocritical.....nice health care plan after having 7 years to prepare it.

The GOP is certainly showing themselves as fit to govern after having all that time to plan for the future.
With all the Game-playing by the Libs, how do you, or anyone else, have any idea how well the GOP plans would be working?
Quit the b*tching and the game playing and the hatred and the scandal searching, and work with the duly elected officials to try to make this Country better. If that doesn't work, then the Libs should be able to reclaim the seats they lost. Their two-year oldish reaction to getting destroy in November is an embarrassment.
Is it anything unlike the GOP getting destroyed in 2009 and instantly saying their number one priority is to make obama a one term President?

Cmon man. Talk about hypocritical.
Uh oh. Facts.

Well, the leak being the negative thing here is one way to look at it.

There's another way to look at it, though.

You're undermining allied intelligence agencies. The established precedent is that you ask or tell the reporting agency that you're going to share the intelligence.

I'm not trying to say that Trump sharing the information was a good decision. I'm absolutely not defending the guy. But we already knew he had poor judgement. That should not be a major story at this point. Illegally leaking confidential information to the press is illegal and strikes me as a much bigger story.

He may have put an asset/assets at risk. That shouldn't happen. But he has the power to declassify just about any information. That isn't illegal. Whether or not he should is an argument one can make. But what came from that room is a major concern. Why Clapper is still even remotely involved bewilders me.

McMaster: What Trump discussed was 'wholly appropriate'

The Washington Post triggered the latest anti-Trump political delirium Monday evening when it published a story headlined, “Trump Revealed Highly Classified Information to Russian Foreign Minister and Ambassador.”

The newspaper ink was barely dry when Democrats began fulminating while the media convulsed. Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz earned the top hysteria award when he declared, “This is the most serious charge ever made against a sitting president!” Puh-leeze.

Mania and madness seem to have gripped the nation’s capital, spreading like a plague of locusts. Several deep breaths are in order. Here are five reasons why it’s time to blow into a paper bag.

1. THE PRESIDENT’S AUTHORITY

The Washington Post accuses President Trump of revealing more than he should have to Russia. Specifically, that he divulged the city in ISIS-held territory where an aviation terror threat was detected. But as President, he alone makes the decision to disclose classified material. He is legally entitled to reveal it. The President is the absolute authority on classified information. He can declassify anything to further national security interests. According to National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, the named ISIS city was fairly obvious and “it was nothing you would not know from open-source reporting”.

2. THE U.S. ROUTINELY SHARES INTEL WITH RUSSIA

For years, the U.S. and Russia have shared intelligence information dealing with common interests, especially terror threats and the fight against ISIS. Recently, Russia has been the target of deadly aviation attacks by terrorists. ISIS is believed to be behind the bombing of a Russian passenger jet in 2015, killing all 224 people on board. So, it makes sense for the U.S. to share aviation intelligence warnings with Russia. As McMaster said repeatedly, “it was a totally appropriate conversation” and a part of routine information sharing.

3. WASHINGTON POST STORY IS MORE OPINION THAN REPORTING

If you examine the Post story carefully, much of it is reaction from anonymous people who express their alarm at what President Trump disclosed. Here’s an example from the Post story: “’It is all kind of shocking,’ said a former senior U.S. official who is close to current administration officials.” But who are these “officials”? How “senior” are they? What branch of government? How politically biased might they be? Do they really know what they’re talking about? So, the Post story is mostly editorializing disguised as straight reporting.

4. THE TERROR THREAT WAS ALREADY WELL KNOWN

Is there anyone who did not already know that terrorists were plotting to use explosives in laptops to bring down airlines? The disclosure to the Russians doesn’t seem terribly revealing. It has been widely reported for quite some time. Seven weeks ago the U.S. government instituted a ban on laptops from airports in certain majority-Muslim countries. Every major newspaper in America covered it. This was the subject President Trump discussed with the Russian diplomats.

5. THE LEAKERS COMMITTED A FELONY

Whoever leaked this classified information to the Post committed multiple felonies under the Espionage Act. It appears that notes of the meeting were transferred to a computer, and the material was leaked from there. Regardless, the person or persons who committed these acts should be prosecuted, once identified. Why? McMaster answered that question when he said, “national security has been put at risk” by the leaks. But the fact that no one seems concerned that crimes were perpetrated… underscores just how dysfunctional politics and the media have become.

Israel is very upset. that tells you a lot about how serious it was.....sometimes leaks are to save us from a danger.
5/16/2017 4:59 PM
It doesn't save us from anything. We already know Trump isn't willing to modify his behavior to cater to popular opinion. He's surrounded himself with enough yes men to justify to himself sufficient support to ignore the negative press and public outcry. What he did isn't illegal and doesn't provide grounds for impeachment, so it doesn't provide a platform to force him to change behavior. It is a felony offense to reveal what went on, particularly when it comes to the details of the information that was shared.
5/16/2017 5:34 PM
it was declassified by him as soon as he said it out loud to russians.
