you know, at this rate, there won't be any room for me to move over from Ferrum at the end of next season. I may just have to take on a siglight role and act as the 13th member. Although it appears that more than 1 coach over there is interested in moving up, so there may be an opening down the road.

Why must we get horrible responses like that one above? Duh! This is my first season and I had no freakin' idea you had to practice. My name is Alan, but it isn't Iverson! It is like they don't even read the question, my guess is they get so many tickets they simply blow through them.
Actually, the ones like this aren't every time, and makes me think there is a hired monkey handling some tickets. Most of the time the response is pretty decent all things considered, but some responses (like this one) really torque me off.
Thanks for the vent.

i think there are a couple idiots in the mix of support.... me and dalter sent in the same question on a ticket. without knowing we submited within a week of each other. we got opposite answers...

OK, a little later than I originally thought. But here we go.
Votes for your first team, second team & third team at Gaurd (2 spots) SF, and Post (2 spots - ie PF or C like last season)
There will also be a vote for COY, POY, Frosh of the year & 6th man of the year (can't start more than 10 games, nor play over 25 mpg).
You may vote for up to 3 of your own players on the first, second & third team combined. You may not vote for yourself, nor one of your players for COY, POY, FOY, 6th man.

Well, I'm somewhat disappointed with my season here. Really strongly considering a switch to man defense. So tough to find kids suited to press at DIII, and when you do the sacrifice is at other areas that are needed. I originally took this team planning FB / man based on what I had to start with, but when that first class went to pot I decided to go motion / press (due to low defense). Was successful 1st couple of seasons, while everyone else rebuilt, but now just can't seem to clear the hump.
Last season I looked a bit more for defense and rebounding (another poor area for Brandeis). I will graduate my 2 single digit defense kids this year, so, I'm thinking maybe going to a man defense, where I've had my most luck at DIII.
Thoughts? Something I'm not seeing?

i want to learn how to play the press myself. i moved over to rhodes (uaa) and will experiment the next few seasons. i dont want to get caugh having to make a move in DI to a team that plays press and not know its little quirks...

i would say stick it out. keep loading up on RB's (that seems to have been your weak spot) and master the press. this conference is the best place to do that. plus you have had relativly good success thus far.

Thanks for the feedback 'polo, although as can be seen I've been practicing man...maybe I'll trot it out in the PI (P-man?). I'll chew on it, but just having a hard time in DIII getting the full skill set I think is needed to play press--especially bigs who can do it--with a limited budget.
Sitemail me if you want my 2 cents on press, although I doubt I have any earth-shattering observations (although my DI press teams have done very well). I've personally concluded the skill matrix needed for effective press is awfully tough to assemble at DIII, but at DI is much more obtainable. As Brandeis has evidenced, to play the D something needs to be sacrificed, and for us it has been mostly rebounding, which is killer if you hit a team who can keep the handle on the ball and gets to take shots (if the turnovers are coming, press is killer).
Perhaps the P-man is the right combo at DIII, try for the steal but play man if you don't get it. However, you then have trouble on development, and I haven't been a fan of combo D's, especially at DIII. But just my opinion.

yea, i think DIII is not the place to roll out the P-man. i'd say p-zone would be okay because you could build a team with crappy defensive ratings and still be fine...
i'll get your advice, but in a few seasons. i'd like to try out the press without any pre conceived notions.

The Zone in D-3 has been terrible for me. Maybe it's because I recruited players who were in the single digits for defense but my team could not stop anyone.

I've found the 2-3 zone to become terrible fustrating (at both D3 & D1 when I ran it at morgan st last year). However, I've grown to love the 3-2.
