Game 21: The four-run inning has become something of a specialty in the Montreal bullpen; Dave Burba puts one on the board in the ninth inning of a tie game and the Oaks take a 6-2 win at Montreal. Roger Clemens and two Oakland relievers stymie the Spectres, allowing only six hits. Brady Anderson's home run accounts for the only Montreal scoring.
Game 22: Rookie Carlos Delgado gets the start at catcher and blasts two solo home runs to lead the Spectres to a 5-2 win over Oakland. Alex Fernandez throws eight innings for the win and Robb Nen collects his fifth save.
Game 23: What a slugfest at County Stadium! Montreal takes a 6-0 lead after Ken Griffey Jr.'s bases-loaded double in the fourth, but the Krauts score in each inning from the fourth through the eighth, abusing a series of Spectre pitchers. Montreal scores in only one inning during that span, taking a 9-6 lead in the top of the sixth that is soon erased. By the time the onslaught ends, Milwaukee leads 11-9. Tony Philips leads off the ninth with a single, and Ken Griffey Jr. puts the next pitch in the bleachers to tie the score. Tom Edens tosses a scoreless bottom half and we go to extras. Carlos Delgado's pinch-hit single in the tenth leads to nothing, and Rick Aguilera strikes out two batters in a 1-2-3 bottom half. Ken Griffey Jr. draws a one-out walk in the 11th and races home on Jay Buhner's double. A few walks later, the bases are loaded for Randy Velarde, and he punches a single through the right side to bring home two more. Robb Nen allows a two-out single in the bottom half but closes it out for a 14-11 win.
Game 24: Montreal's struggles at home continue as Chuck Finley is outpitched (and outhit) by Milwaukee's David Cone in an 8-3 loss. Ken Griffey Jr.'s error leads to three unearned runs, and, not to be outdone, Jay Buhner commits a two-run error. Griffey Jr. blasts his seventh home run and Bret Boone his fourth, but the Krauts earn a split of this interleague home-and-home.
Unfortunately, the Spectres remain at Olympic Stadium (where they are 2-6) to finish up the first round of divisonal play with a visit from Pittsburgh, who has lost nine straight and hungry for a win.

Game 25: Cal Eldred starts for the B-Collars, and it is evident early on that he doesn't have his best stuff. The first batter he faces, Brady Anderson, hits a home run. The third batter he faces, Ken Griffey Jr., hits a home run. Tony Phillips adds another home run in the third, and Brady Anderson adds a two-run single in the fourth. Ron Karkovice homers in the sixth, and Ken Griffey Jr. hits his second home run of the day to lead off the seventh, ending Eldred's day. Montreal starter Joe Hesketh lasts through five, Bob Wickman tosses three scoreless innings, and the Spectres win 8-4.
Game 26: Ron Karkovice doubles and homers in the first four innings, helping Montreal to a 4-0 lead, but the B-Collars erase that margin with a four-run fifth that includes homers from Carlos Baerga and Kenny Lofton. With one out in the bottom half of that frame, Ken Griffey Jr. homers, his 10th of the season. The next five batters reach base also, three by walk, and the Spectres score five times in the inning on the way to a 15-7 win. Rick Aguilera has a rough outing in relief, allowing three runs and watching his ERA skyrocket to 8.68 on the season.
Game 27: Pittsburgh takes an early 3-0 lead off Alex Fernandez, but the Spectres even things up when Randy Velarde takes Sid Fernandez deep for a three-run home in the fourth. In the fifth, Sid loses all control, walking three batters, including one with the bases loaded, to give Montreal the lead. Alex is lights out through the eighth and Robb Nen pitches a scoreless ninth to save a 4-3 win. Sid gives up only two hits, but walks eight, in his five innings. It's the first time in recent memory that the Spectres have beat him.
Game 28: Scott Sanders pitches effectively into the seventh inning and even drives in a run as the Spectres sweep Pittsburgh with a 6-2 win. Eddie Murray drives home two runs, giving him 19 for the season.
Interleague sets with Minnesota (12-16) and Boston (19-9) are up next.
3/9/2008 7:14 AM
Game 29: Chuck Finley drops to 0-3 as he allows a two-run homer to Pedro Munoz and lets a run score on a wild pitch. Ron Karkovice hits a three-run homer in the seventh but it's not enough to bring Montreal back; Minnesota takes the game, 4-3.
Game 30: Dean Palmer hits a three-run homer in the first and it looks like it could be a long day for the Spectres. Joe Hesketh settles down, however, and holds the MallRats scoreless until exiting after five. Dave Burba enters to pitch the sixth, when Kent Hrbek smashes a two-run shot to make it 5-0. Montreal scores once in the seventh and once in the eighth, narrowing the lead to three, but Hrbek drives home another run in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 6-2. Brady Anderson and Tony Phillips start the ninth with singles, prompting a pitching change by Minnesota. Ken Griffey Jr. and Jay Buhner hit consecutive doubles, bringing Montreal within a run. Brett Boone grounds out, but Ken Caminiti singles, putting runners at the corners with one down. Carlos Delgado fails to put the ball in play, striking out and bringing up Greg Gagne. Gagne hits a blooper to center and it falls in, then skips past the fielders. Two runs score, Gagne has a double, the Spectres lead! Robb Nen throws eight pitches, coaxes short fly balls on three, and Montreal wins.
Game 31: Wilson Alvarez handcuffs the Spectres through seven innings and the Brawn hit three home runs as they win easily, 7-2. Scott Erickson is forced to throw 90 pitches before leaving in the fifth.
Game 32: Hopes for a split in this interleague set are dashed as the Spectres first choke up most of a 6-0 lead (after three RBI singles result in a five-run fifth off Jimmy Key) then watch Robb Nen blow his first save of the season, allowing two runs in the eighth inning to give Boston a 9-8 lead. Montreal loads the bases with two down in the ninth but Ken Griffey Jr. strikes out to end it. In a rare start, Ricky Gutierrez has five hits for the Spectres.
The schedule doesn't get any easier as the Spectres head to St. Louis to face the defending World Champion Blue Storm (19-13).
3/10/2008 2:05 PM
Game 33: Montreal catches Tom Glavine at a good time.. after striking out leadoff man Tony Phillips, Glavine surrenders five straight hits and a walk. Montreal scores three times and never looks back, ripping 20 hits for the day in a 15-6 win. Alex Fernandez improves to 7-0, pitching seven innings. Eddie Murray has four hits and three RBI to pace the Spectre attack.
Game 34: Chuck Finley allows two home runs and five runs in 7.2 innings, but picks up his first win of the season as the Spectres blast four homers for a 10-5 win. Ken Griffey Jr. hits his 12th home run; Greg Gagne drives home three.
Game 35: Joe Hesketh doesn't help himself out, issuing six walks in 3.2 innings, and the Blue Storm romp, 11-5, sending the Spectres into a three-way tie for the division lead at 20-15.
More interleague play on deck as Montreal will face Chicago (9-26) and Kansas City (21-14) next.
3/11/2008 7:31 PM
Game 36: Chciago's Daryl Kile falls to 0-7 as the Spectres hit four home runs off him (and two off his relievers) on the way to an 11-2 win. Ken Griffey Jr. goes yard twice, giving him 14 for the season. Scott Erickson makes it through six innings and evens his record at 3-3.
Game 37: Mark Johnson doubles, homers, and drives home four runs for the White Sox while John Smiley throws a complete game and Chicago earns a split with Montreal after a 7-2 win.
Game 38: Alex Fernandez allows only three hits and two unearned runs in a complete game, running his record to 8-0, as the Spectres defeat Kansas City 3-2. Jay Buhner has three hits to pace the Spectres.
Game 39: Jay Buhner continues his hot hitting, driving home four runs, but starter Chuck Finley is horrible and the bullpen doesn't help matters any. Kansas City destroys Montreal, 13-7.
Montreal comes home to face Los Angeles.

Game 40: Joe Hesketh strikes out eight and Ken Griffey Jr. hits his 15th home run as the Spectres take the opener from LA, 6-4.
Game 41: Los Angeles puts crooked numbers on the board in each inning from the second through the fifth, all off Scott Erickson, and the Looters even the series with a dominating 11-5 performance.
Game 42: Scott Sanders is bludgeoned for seven runs before exiting in the second inning, and the Looters dominate Montreal for a second straight game, 12-1.
Montreal heads out to Ohio to face Cincinnati.
3/14/2008 11:47 PM
Game 43: Montreal continues to drop out of the playoff race as the Spectres blow a two-run lead in the ninth and then lose it in the tenth on a Ryan Klesko home run off Bob Wickman. Final score: 5-4. Montreal hits three home runs, including one by Alex Fernandez, but it is Fernandez that allows a two-run pinch hit shot by JT Snow in the ninth.
Game 44: Both teams have five-run innings, but the Spectres put more around theirs; Ken Griffey Jr. hits his 16th home run and Chuck Finley has two hits and two runs scored to help offset his shaky pitching as the Spectres win 8-6.
Game 45: Joe Hesketh throws six solid innings to even his record at 2-2 as the Spectres get timely hitting throughout in a 9-2 win over the Stingers. Ron Karkovice hits his seventh home run.
Montreal hosts 12-33 San Diego next.
3/15/2008 12:03 PM
Game 46: Montreal scores four times in the first off Mark Clark, but Scott Erickson gives all those back, plus one more, in the third. Jay Buhner's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth makes it a 7-6 game, with one down and men at the corners, but Brady Anderson's short fly ball fails to score the tying run and Tony Phillips grounds out to end it.
Game 47: Game 2 is a little more what the Spectres had envisioned.. Ken Griffey Jr. homers and drives home six runs to pace a 17-hit Spectre attack as the Conquistadors fall, 18-9.
Game 48: Montreal hits three home runs, including a grand slam from Chuck Finley, who also goes the distance in a 16-2 win. Finley improves to 3-4.
Interleague play is on tap as the Spectres prepare to face Seattle (30-18) and Washington (22-26) next. Montreal sits 27-21, in third place in the NL East, two back of first place Philadelphia and one game behind New York.
3/16/2008 12:26 PM
Game 49: Montreal clubs four homers off Jeff Fassero and hands him his first loss of the season. Alex Fernandez improves to 9-0 for the Spectres.
Game 50: Montreal overcomes an early 2-0 deficit with single runs in the seventh and eighth, then gets great pitching from the bullpen, finally winning in the 14th on Tony Phillips' two-run homer. Montreal sweeps the Emeralds for the first time in several years.
Game 51: After a brilliant performance against Seattle, the pen has nothing in Washington. The Senators score five runs in the seventh and eighth to defeat Montreal 7-3.
Game 52: Montreal scores five times in the first inning off Mark Gardner, and then (despite some shaky moments) holds on for an 11-9 win over the Senators. Eddie Murray drives home four runs; Tony Phillips reaches base five times and scores three.
Montreal stays at home to host Atlanta before the second round of divisional play begins.
3/17/2008 9:45 PM
Game 53: Montreal hits three home runs off Ramon Martinez, but they're all solo shots, while the Tomahawks destry Chuck Finley for nine runs. Atlanta wins easily, 13-5, leaving the Spectres one game out of the division lead.
Game 54: Montreal jumps out to a big lead early, getting a two-run double from Eddie Murray in the first and a three-run homer from Ken Griffey Jr. in the second. The bullpen tries to make things interesting, but the Spectres hold on for a 12-8 win. Rick Aguilera gets shelled again, allowing three runs. His ERA is 8.66. Tom Edens also takes a beating, sending his ERA up to 7.03.
Game 55: While the Spectres unexpectedly batter Kevin Brown, Scott Erickson delivers a typical performance, dooming Montreal to a 10-8 loss and a lost series to Atlanta. Jay Buhner and Ron Karkovice homer in the loss.
Now two games back of Philly, Montreal starts the second round of divisional play with a visit from the Cosmos.

Kermie, did you point out that Alex Fernandez is undefeated (9-0) going into today's game vs. the Cosmos?

I thought that it should be noted in the forums, and I wish him the best of luck!
3/19/2008 12:25 PM
Game 56: Alex Fernandez throws eight shutout innings, scattering eight hits, and improves to 10-0 as the Spectres take the opener from New York, 6-0. Ron Karkovice becomes the second Spectre to reach 10 home runs; Ken Caminiti drives home two.
Game 57: New York doesn't hit Scott Sanders hard, but they make the most of their chances, taking a 6-1 lead in the top of the seventh. Meanwhile, Bobby Witt dominates the Spectre batters, striking out 10 in five innings of work. But then New York has to go to their bullpen, and the Spectres rally, getting a two-run homer from Ron Karkovice in the seventh and a three-run shot from Bret Boone in the eighth, tying the score at six. Rick Aguilera throws a scoreless ninth, but the Spectres strand two runners in the bottom half. Robb Nen works around some trouble to get out of the top of the 10th still tied and Lee Smith enters for the Cosmos. Bret Boone leads off with his second home run of the game, giving Montreal a 7-6 win.
Game 58: Dave Justice's 17th home run, in the fifth inning, gives the Cosmos a 4-0 lead as the Spectres are helpless against Tim Belcher. Once again, though, Montreal rallies off the Cosmos bullpen, getting a three-run homer from Eddie Taubensee in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at four. The 10th inning is less satisfying, however. Tony Fossas hits Gary Sheffield in the back and Sheffield proceeds to steal second and then score the winning run on a single by Jose Oliva. Dustin Mahlmann pitches the bottom half for the Cosmos, allows only a two out single to Jay Buhner, and preserves a 5-4 win for New York.
Montreal awaits a visit from first place Philadelphia, now two games in front of both Montreal and New York.
