Nice work ku. Should be interesting to see how these guys turn out. I don't think Robinson will end up being the best from this class. Don't get me wrong, he is a fantastic player. However, big men tend to have less room to improve than other positions, and we have some great SF prospects that could become beasts.

I hope Binder pans out for me. I inherited 2 SR SF, so it'll be nice to have this guy sit a season and step in to some big minutes next season. He'll probably get the starting nod over Toro, who seems like he will be more valuable as a back up SF/PF. With any luck Binder and Preston will make a formidable duo in a press with their above average speed and ath.

I wish they kept the conference signings page up once the season started. I'd love to come up with my own list, but I don't feel like going through each teams profile to see who they signed etc.

nice job KuJ, allways a fun read. Keep up the good work

Well, after polling the coaches in our conference. The vast majority of the NAC coaches agree, we are not interested in "CS" scheduling. Most said simply, if the majority vote to schedule lame and come into conference with an 8 win minimum, I guess i can try, however, I would prefer to continue to try to schedule as difficult a schedule as I believe my team can handle. I have developed several fun games against good veteran coaches from other conferences and would hate to drop them off my schedule just to "scam" the RPI system. The 2 votes that actually leaned towards the "CS" version of OOC scheduling both said I believe we need to be competitive, if this is the way the other top conferences are going then I want to be able to compete.

I also wrote about 3 paragraphs of my own opinion...... blasting the clowns who are busy trying to defend themselves right now. Then I deleted it and decided, hey it's just a fricken game. If it gets where you have to do this kind of stuff to compete... go do something else, let em have it.

The NAC laid claim to the #1 conference in Allen DIII, last season. If we never get there again,,, such is life, we did it once and we earned it.

to those with an * which shall appear by any future success they may have..... "I fart in your general direction",,,,, hahaha.

On a personal side note, I have great respect for the NW and the MIAC in Allen. To see the coach with the most success in this world even contemplate doing this shocks me to say the least.

To be fair to that most successful coach, he still schedules some tough games. To criticize him for a soft schedule would be like criticizing Maryland for scheduling Lehigh and Savannah State and ignoring the fact that they scheduled teams like UCLA.

You must not have looked at next seasons schedules. Maryland DOES-NOT play Lehigh 8 out of their 10 NC games. If they did they would be laughed out of the ACC.

I was talking about this past real life season. Though you are correct, I haven't gotten around to looking at who they will be playing next season. Have they even released that schedule yet?

Nevertheless, I thank you for re-enforcing my point. While I don't disagree with you on the whole, I still don't think its fair to criticize the schedule of that one particular coach. You can make a case that he might have a few too many pushovers next season, but this season and next he has also scheduled his fair share of solid teams.

If anything, his schedule this season is more realistic than both the cupcake schedule and the all top team schedule. While we rarely see a team from a top conference in real life schedule only pushovers, we also rarely see them schedule just top tier competition.

There are multiple ways to "beat the system" with scheduling. I could schedule 10 road games in a season. With the cap on home court advantage in DIII, it would be a low risk high reward proposal. If I were in a weak conference (which I give you all credit, this is the best conference in which I have ever participated), I could load up on the cream of the crop. It is almost the inverse of the strategy in question.

Once again, I want to stress that I agree with you on the whole. When taken to the extreme, that method of scheduling does seem to take away from the realism and competitiveness of non-conference play.

I really think they have upped HCA this year. Maybe not by letter grade, but by ability to win. I've seen crazy upsets across 4 worlds from teams @ home.

I'd like to say congrats to a few guys who have made nice strides this season in our conference.

Floyd has a very nice, balanced team. He has done well all season and returned the "pride" back to the Beavers. Nice job!

I have whined about my RPI/SOS a little, however, Lucky's super-team's #1 RPI last season was a big reason for our overall success as a conference, so his 0-27 season is very painful for us all but I guess that's our payback for riding along last season.

Tex has only 1 sr. and 2 jr's so he should only get better the next couple seasons as well and those 4-23 things should be a thing of the past for us.

BDub is prolly the biggest loser in the RPI/SOS sweep-stakes, His team played very well all season, they won when they were suppose to and lost to the really good teams. His reward for having his best team ever and graduating 6 seniors is an 80+RPI and 150ish SOS. Sorry Buddy, last season this team would be coasting into the postseason.

Castelton St played a very good season, and they as well have a better team than is going to show up on paper as you look back in a season or two.

Jelly had a good team again, altho his W/L record, RPI and SOS may say otherwise. He is never an ez win, and allways a tough opponent to GP for.

UMPI, Ida, Thomas, and Elmo all are in the process of improving their programs and I don't think their coaches expected 20 wins from their teams, however, they have all been a tough speed-bump to handle for anyone who fancied their team a little better than them and didn't take em seriously.

UMPI recruiting analysis:

Brian Allen (SG): In retrospect, I should have aimed a bit higher here. I was more concerned with filling my other two spots though, so I ended up going for a guy that I knew wouldn't draw a battle. I will only be returning 1 guard next year, so I wanted a RS that would be able to start next season. Allen is a bit slower than I would like but he has solid perimeter and amazing ball handling. He has a decent work ethic and should improve nicely.

Harvey Smith (SF): This guy...plain and simple he signed way too easily for a player that never appeared on my DIII screen. I thought Binder came in last season with good speed/ath...well Smith blows him out of the water. His work ethic and bh are a bit low, but this guy is going to be a great player.

Wade Ferrero (PF): Like Toro last season, Ferrero is a SF/PF type. I have more than enough options at SF though so I will focus on his big man skills. Ath/speed are solid but not spectacular for his position. He won't be a liability on defense. Like Smith, the work ethic is a bit low, but both players should see immediate floor time which will help bring that up. His post game will take a few years to develop, but when it does, coupled with this high FT%, he will be a good to great offensive player.

All in all, I'm happy with how recruiting turned out. Options are limited with C- prestige, but I think I managed to find some solid players.

Elms Recruiting Analysis: Season 28

Jack Duggan (SG): Duggan looks a lot like Foster coming in, and should follow a similar progression as he'll most likely be getting the RS this season. While solid with 50ish ratings in SPD/PER/BH/P/WE, he's another poor defender and doesn't bring anything new to the team's makeup.

Michael Bright (C): Very similar to Montgomery (Senior C for Elms last season) as a freshman and should develop into a decent big with improvable BH and a good FT%. A safe play in a year where I was admittedly timid in fear of ruining last season's recruiting efforts. Bright will spend his career under Wolinski's shadow.

Eric "The Bulldog" Markey (C): Garbage Man Deluxe. Seriously, my guards will be running stairs for every time they even look at this kid on the offensive end of the floor. He should be able to jump right in and grab some boards in his early years, and might even learn to put the ball back in the basket by his senior season.

Mathew Jones (SF): So, I was finished recruiting with the intent of taking a walkon when I stumbled upon Jones and said, "what the hell, why not?" Probably my favorite pickup, even though I've got a couple of potential stars ahead of him in Simpson and North. Lots of pluses with this kid.. great ATH, REB, and PER along with improvable categories across the board. A mediocre WE is a noticeable flaw, but I think he can be a great role player in spite of that. I think the reason I really like this kid is the versatility he brings to the table when combined with Simpson and North... I envision a scenario where Elms has three small forwards on the floor at the same time with Jones at SG, Simpson at SF, and North at PF. Versatility will be a big emphasis for Elms moving forward, and I like the combination of players that will be on the floor in a couple of seasons.

A bit of a "blah" recruiting year for Elms in that I'm not overly excited about any of my pickups. Having said that, last season's bunch appears to have had a great year of development and I still look to be in good shape in a year or two.

Husson recruiting class, (nickdiesel's first ever in the NAC)

still tryin to carry on MIZZOU's tradition and in such i hope i earned a little respect with this recruiting class. was a little worried about third recruit since i missed a couple of cycles due to work but love boissenberry.

WILLIAM MCKOWN 6'9" PF (465)

I needed some muscle down low and he will make immediate contribution. solid numbers and stellar shot blocking for freshman I hope he will be solid backup his freshman year. Would have been a little higher on him had his passing rating and ball handling ratings been reveresed.

COREY "SUSHI ROLL" NAKAGAWA 6' PG (507)

Sushi's numbers are a little inflated by high durability and stamina but he is stilla solid recruit. Granted the 5 Defense could turn into a detriment, but had to "roll" with him when he expressed interest. He was going to reshirt until i signed my last recruit who I feel is in more need of a redshirt year. Sushi should be solid player but hope with my scheme he wont get schooled.

ARTHUR "BOISENBERRY" BOISSENEAULT 6' SG (457)

I actually really like this recruit, especially if he takes the redshirt. He has solid core stats and an 87 work ethic. He should be a force in his upperclassmen years.

6/14/2008 7:55 PM
Going back and forth on who to redshirt Nakagawa or Boisenneaullt? any opinion is appreciated.
6/15/2008 8:01 AM
It depends on what defense you end up playing. If you are not playing man to man, I would redshirt Nakagawa. If you are playing man to man I would redshirt Mckown....or if you're really against that, Boissenault
