this is the type of deal that would be vetoed during the season. honestly, i don't get it from the reds' perspective.
also, holleybard...you should do some research before making a comment like that.
the reds already have Benito Santiago at catcher (.264, 30 HRs, C+/A/B-).
Bench has only 360 ABs, and is worse defensively (B+/B-/C).
in return, the reds get a backup catcher in Benedict who is very good defensively (B/C/A).
then you get Ray Knight (618 ABs, .264, .471, 14 HRs) for Bob Horner (466 ABs, .268, .529 SLG%, 35 HRs). Knight is the better fielder.
then you get George Foster (528 ABs, .273, .473 SLG%, 25 HRs) for Dale Murphy (573 ABs, .281, .510 SLG%, 33 HRs). Murphy is the better fielder.
finally you get Ken Griffey Sr (544 ABs, .294, .454 SLG%, 13 HRs) for Gary Matthews Sr (575 ABs, .278, .419 SLG%, 19 HRs). Griffey is the better fielder.
to veto a trade, you probably have reason ot believe either...
A.there is some sort of collusion.
or B.the trade is so lopsided that it negatively affects the league
So, why would you veto, holley. reasons, please...
