My first drafting mistake, I realize now in retrospect, was in failing to count how many of my draftees' hitting seasons would suffice for their positions. I ended up needing to use one more season of a teammate on a hitter than I should have, and that meant dropping a really good reliever teammate and weakening my bullpen in the process. I suppose I could still just accept a platoon of bad McGee/Simmons seasons instead of a great Willie Mays season, but this is the sort of trickiness that is hard to foresee sometimes.
