Jeremy Edelman, 5'10" 171 lbs., 3.6 GPA, our returning point guard, was a big target for me last year. I did have to win a recruiting battle for him, although I don't remember against whom it was. I love his speed, ball handling, passing, and FT shooting. I like his perimeter rating and work ethic, and am satisfied with his athleticism (not that I have any choice). I'm not so happy about his defense, and that's one of the primary reasons I'm considering putting in the press...because it's less important there than it is in man-to-man defense.

Jeremy isn't a defender, he's an offensive playmaker. In the Triangle, I don't think I need a PG to be a scorer, just someone who can handle the press well through speed, ballhandling, and passing. I think, other than in terms of defense, he'll be quite good by the time he's out of here.

If I were starting with a totally blank slate, I'd probably go with a motion/zone-press, as that's my favorite system. I'm not starting with a blank slate, though.

A rock-solid contributor, Jeremy Edelman leaves Fordham with arguably his best, and certainly his most efficient year for the team. It was also the year in which he took the fewest shots of his career.

Diminished in stature within the program by the arrival of Laurence Fanelli, Edelman never started a game in his collegiate career (I may start doing a Senior Night on the last home game of my future seasons, come to think of it), and he did it without complaining. Edelman, as a result, won't be a name mentioned by casual fans as a memorable charter member of the Fordham dynasty, but he will hold a place in the hearts of the truly dedicated and informed.

If he had shot just 9 more free throws, making the same rate of them, Edelman would have held the fourth spot in the team record books. As it stands, his sole place is 13th on the list of career assists.

Stacey Duke, 6'0" 179 lbs., 3.2 GPA, our returning shooting guard. I liked the look of him despite his low work ethic, and still do. He's an offensive threat as a shooter, though not yet so much as a playmaker, something I hope to change. His athleticism and speed are outstanding, considering that I got him to myself during recruiting, and his perimeter rating is great, too. All of those I expect to reach 90 by the start of his junior season. I might be a little too optimistic on that front, considering his work ethic...

Duke's fine on defense, too. I vaguely wish he had better talent at rebounding, but beggers can't be choosers, and as I discovered, Fordham is a begger.

Defying both expectations and gravity, the acrobatic marksman Stacey Duke shot and shot and shot his way into the record books of Fordham University Basketball. The all-time leader for 3 point percentage and fifth on the list of scorers, on offense, while second all time for steals, on defense, Duke was a shooting star that took four years to leave the sky.

Ignored by other coaches due to a reputation for laziness, Duke played with a chip on his shoulder for the Rams. That chip, luckily, didn't impede his beautiful stroke of the ball as he let it fly again and again, for a total of 609 attempts from beyond the arc (71.9% of his total shots).

John Byrd, 6'7" 214 lbs., 3.1 GPA, is a power forward I leaned on fairly heavily last year as a backup to Carroll...I did have a center named Burton Jackson who was a junior when I came in, with a 2.0 GPA, and who had missed his freshman season due to academic ineligibility. I tried to bring Jackson's GPA up to a 2.7 so he'd be able to stick around for another season, but despite his and my best efforts, it only made it up to a 2.4. As a result, I'm realizing now that I might be best served to only take on only five guys this year and/or bring on another PF/C to redshirt. Anyways, Byrd is good, though he really is more of a C in my system than a PF. He's developed well so far and I expect that to continue. His defense is okay but not great.

If Jeremy Edelman was a rock, in his senior season John Byrd was the Earth itself, serving as the foundation for the entire team.

A long-term backup who stepped into the enormous shoes of Greg Carroll and Nathan Goines, Byrd manufactured points the ugly way - banging around the boards, drawing fouls and hitting free throws. He reached double figures in 26 of the 31 games in his one year of starting.

Byrd leaves the team as the 3rd most prolific blocker in school history as well as the 2nd best free throw shooter.

If Fanelli and Giles return, I feel like I'm fairly well set up for another run next year. I don't foresee Fanelli leaving at this point. Giles could, but I hope he doesn't, as he'd be pretty nice for me for the next two years, and he'd provide a nice transition guy for the next batch of recruits.

I would have been much more satisfied with a Sweet Sixteen exit, but y'know, it happens. I can't complain about how my team performed in general, and sometimes they had an off night. I was hoping they wouldn't, because they're not quite talented enough to get away with it against good teams, but all the same, I've got a good program going in the Ivy League, which is going to become a nice conference to be in, and...whatever, the next year will be here soon enough and the team should still be good.

Hopefully I can reload a little, instead of having to rebuild, but we'll see.

It would've helped if Hall had taken the redshirt his sophomore season.

Job season is here, and I'm qualified for everything but Syracuse. Actually, everything is a "step backwards" except Syracuse and Dayton (for whatever reason, considering they're 2-25).

I am, of course, staying on at Fordham long term. Just wanted to note it.

I'll be curious to see what I qualify for after the first batch of hirings goes through.

Now that hirings have happened, Syracuse got taken (of course), the coach of Purdue joined us at the Ivy League, Dayton got taken, I'm a longshot at Purdue (and not applying...imagine how cold that would be), daalter apparently didn't say he was going to join us, Nellie might still, aporter and cyben aren't qualified just yet, schuyler101 might be coming. The season shifts tonight.

Both Fanelli and Giles are staying. Fordham is set for another successful year.

My first drafted player in any world. I did recruit a guy or two who was drafted, but after I was out of the school as coach.

Fanelli looks unreal, Giles looks really strong, Jordan could be a damn good sharpshooter, Thompson will be a dynamic scorer and rebounder, Palmer a more-than-adequate backup, Carey an athletic giant, Hall an experienced 7 footer. Last year's recruits look very good, too.
