Agreed. You can criticize Hatcher for his lack of speed but he's not a goon. He (as well as Smith) is a tough as nails stand up guy who will fight when the situation calls for it, he won't drop the gloves as a sideshow just because there's another tough guy on the ice. Malone bit off more than he could chew, he's just lucky Hatch didn't have a real reason to be angry at him. If Crosby's little "pretend toughguy" act rubs off on his teammates they could get themselves into some real trouble.

I'm at the point now where I wonder if getting his *** beat would help Crosby grow up a little. It baffles me how he can be so mature off the ice and such a little crybaby on it.

Speaking to a Pens fan, it kinda sucks I hate Crosby so much. I never really disliked the Pens all that much 'till now either. It's amazing that I talk to Ranger and Devils fans who are rooting for the Flyers in this series. I like Ovechkin and Malkin, Crosby just has that spoiled little rich kid attitude that I can't stand. Throw a temper tantrum and daddy will get you whatever you need to shut you up. As talented as he is I truely would never want him on my team.

Actually, Upshall hit Staal. In the scrum that followed, Malone tried getting a piece of whoever he could. He made the mistake of punching Hatcher a couple of times, and once Hatcher was able to oblige Malone, he did. It's Malone's fault for not getting a piece of Upshall. But these things happen in a scrum.
exactly how it happened..

Something no one is mentioning is the fact that Upshall his feet to give the hit, hence the penalty, and could be one of the reasons the whole fight started (TSN has a good clip on their highlights, at http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/#clip53330 -- It's about 2:30 into the clip). I also think that's why it looks like Upshall was bending down to check on Staal like he was apologizing. Maybe he was.

SHH BUTTERCUP YOU KNOW NOTHING OF THE UNWRITTEN RULES OF THE GAME HEH HEH

IF HATCHER HAD A HINT OF CLASS HE SHOULD HAVE LET MALONE CONTINUE TO PUNCH HIM AND NOT DO ANYTHING

DON'T MIND ME I'M JUST FABRICATING REASONS TO THROW THE GOON TITLE AT ALL THE FLYERS

BUT YOU ARE ALL PENS HATERS SO YOU CAN'T SEE THE TRUTH!!!111

Could be, I don't remember it being nearly as bad but he was on the west coast so we very rarely had a chance to see him play here in Philly. If he had started his career as a Ranger I may have had a different opinion of him.

as it stands, I'd rather be at a communion party (especially if it's at La Veranda).

Did anyone see a good replay/get an explanation of the dissalowed goal? Saw a couple poor replays that it looked like Thorsen got pushed in by Orpik. Quickly it was reviewed and called a no-goal. Announcers said something to the effect of "uhh...and it's been called off" then they went to commercial.
5/18/2008 5:08 PM
They're calling it goalie interference. There was no review. Think it was a goal but it hardly matters now.
5/18/2008 5:19 PM
Thoresen's progress impeded the goalie from making the save or some crap like that.

The Flyers played this one like they got food poisoning last night from whatever restaurant they went to in the Strip or Carson Street. They're going out as quietly as they did against Ottawa a few seasons back.

Oh well it was a great season and the Flyers did a lot better than I thought they would. Even though this last game they played like crap I am still happy at how good they did this season.
5/18/2008 5:47 PM
yeah it's tough. the four losses, when pittsburgh took the lead and they started playing defense it was painful. The Flyers in their own zone under little to know pressure would play like their skates were tired together. When they did have the ability to put some rush together the Pens team defense was stifling. Is it possible to give the series MVP to the pens neutral zone defense?
