There are a few minor changes in progress, but nothing that's going to wow you guys. Casey has been working on a few things as he finds time. Salaries are a fairly easy change for me, but I would need to steal some time from Paul (tinmanpb) to work out a formula, and right now is a really busy time for him with NFL stuff.

Name changes are easy enough. Is there a complete list somewhere? If not I can scan through here sometime.

how hard is it to program extra time stoppages? that would be a significant fix that wouldnt seem to take too much work ( scheduled stoppage quarterly + some TOs = stoppage - the logic seems pretty simple)

and it's been gift wrapped and in your lap for like 16 mos at this point

Hi Seble. When it comes to play stoppages to achieve accurate mpg I am all for being more accurate vs being more realistic as in RL timeouts.

In other words it wouldn't bother me at all if the play was stopped one time per minute to make substitutions. That way each players mpg could be as close to being what has been programmed by the coach as possible.

One of the biggest frustrations that I have is when one of my great players ie. Oscar Roberston is scheduled for at least 45 minutes and then only gets 36 minutes or so with 4 fouls and the team loses by 3 points.

If you enjoy the game then by all means keep playing. If not, then try something else.
This is really your pitch to keep customers playing the NBA sim.....REALLY?

This isn't pertaining to this thread, but your plethora of excuses is mind boggling and seemingly unending...you make an excuse for EVERYTHING.

Exactly...Paul is working on "NFL stuff"... out some key words here....THAT NOBODY CARES ABOUT! BTB is the single biggest waste of time on this site, and don't dare try to tell me that it doesn't take away from IMPROVING other games, that....get this....PEOPLE PAY FOR. If you guys haven't realized, Whatifsports.com isn't Foxsports.com you aren't getting hundreds of thousands of hits everyday from a large and varying fan base, you get a couple thousand (maybe? maybe a little more?) from the same 200-500 people that check this site regularly, thus it seems EXTREMELY pointless to me for WIS to put out CFB and NFL rankings ESPECIALLY when you're going to change them throughout the season....guys...no one gives a damn about PRE-SEASON rankings and you guys simulating the season before it happens.....*YAWN*.

Prioritizing is WIS #1 problem...is and always has been.....well that and marketing/advertising....."Play if you want and if you don't like it, try something else".....GREAT SLOGAN.

Uneble, you and your empty statements offer no hope, you're going to WRECK HD BAD, and you're leaving us with a new guy that has to figure out all of your NBA sim garbage/mistakes/illogicalities, etc.....thanks.....no really.......

And yes, you and WIS deserve every last bit of this criticism.

I think the only additional play stoppages that would really help and still be realistic would be scheduled TV timeouts. Otherwise I would guess most timeouts come near the end of quarters in real life, not so much spread evenly.

some TOs go out of bounds

according to you (or whoever was on support 2 years ago) the biggest challenge to more accurate minutes controls was that the sim coach had to wait until there was stoppage in play to make a substitution

so...?
8/29/2009 11:40 AM
I'll have to check the code on that. It should be checking subs every time there is a dead ball, which would include a non-steal turnover.
8/29/2009 12:20 PM
has anyone here ever seen the ball go out of bounds in PbP? I dont think I have
8/29/2009 3:07 PM
I just read thru a QTR of PbP -

during the qtr this happened once:

3:30Earl Watson throws it away.

but there was no stoppage and no substitution or anything and that was the only time I could 'assume' the ball went out of bounds
8/29/2009 3:50 PM
Seble, I just want to say that I really enjoy the game and I've been throwing money at it and probably will continue to as long as it is around.

Now that this has been said. . . . . .

I work for a software company, in customer service. I'm not a programmer, and this may be part of the problem. We never let programmers speak to customers at our company and I believe there is a very good reason for that (and I say this with both sides in mind): we can't expect a programmer to provide customer service the way a trained professional or even someone with good people skills would, but we also expect the programmer (who is actually able to MAKE changes to the product) to work with the GREAT ideas and suggestions for improvement that we put in your lap. This creates a disconnect between what is expected and reality. Normally, there would be a buffer: 'We will take your suggestions into consideration and present them to the programming team." Then the programmers would be hearing this from someone within their organization and would have their egos shielded from the fury of the crowd. Seble, as many people have pointed out, people are critical. By nature, we're much more likely to speak of our displeasure than the simple things that go right.

Being in customer service, sometimes I get ****** at the programmers because there are some things that seem simple to fix, but they have bigger fish to fry in other products than the one I support. This is understandable; however, even with our less popular product, we release every few months with a new batch of programming requests fulfilled. Please please try to do just a little. Everyone will appreciate the effort even if noone says thank you.

I havent had a team on the Basketball sim in a couple months, however I am going to say this.

1. If WIS wants more customers on basketball sim, then for one they can lower the price. They should know paying 50 bucks for 6 teams is too much, for a text based sim. Maybe if it was like 30-35 bucks atleast, more people would spend their money. WIS knows paying 50 bucks is too much in these times for this sim game.

2. The basketball sim engine IMO should had stayed the same way it was back like it was 18 months ago. It became annoying seeing some owners with no originality having the same lineups (Nash, Allen, Rice,Peja, Moses, Rodman).

3. WIS Customer Service has been terrible at times. For example, someone starts a league and on a Wed. of that week, the league is about to start, however there is a mistake in the rules of the league (no clones for example, but some people draft clones by mistake). The owner of the league tries to contact customer service to stop the league from beginning play. The owner may not hear back from Customer service until MONDAY OF NEXT WEEK.

4. I think some owners who used to play alot on here, but no longer don't is because of the price of the sim, or the engine change or both.

empdenied, in an ideal world we would be big enough to have a dedicated customer support group. That's just not possible. We all do everything here. Trust me, most of us programmers would rather not because it's not what we like doing and it's not something we're trained for. We just do the best we can.

That's quite possibly true and something we may consider changing.

There will always be cookie cutter teams, but the current engine is the best it's been for encouraging different styles of play. Salaries may be a problem here.

If something like that happened it would be because of a miscommunication or misunderstanding somewhere. The commish has to assume responsibility as well to notify us as soon as possible to give us time to respond. Sometimes we aren't notified until after a season has started.
