I don't think I would draw the line any differently than you would in the safety precaution areas of business.

The legislation I would have like to see on this is open offshore drilling and open shale oil mining and these are the safety precautions that need to be followed if you want to do these things. Also here are the things you will have to do for the environment if you want to do these things.

I mentioned this in another topic, the Exxon civil case dragged on for 20 years before the 32000 plaintiffs were awarded 507 million to split. Not good precedent for the people on the Gulf

who were the 32,000 plantiffs?
5/3/2010 5:02 PM
Just about anyone who made their living off the fishing industry in the affected area. Obviously it wasn't split evenly, but it comes to around 15,000/person. Any way you split it up, it doesn't make up for the lost incomes. The initial sum they were looking for was 5 billion. 507 mil is a drop in the bucket for Exxon.

A commercial fishing license at the time of the spill costed around $300,000. I read of a couple that bought their license on the eve of the spill and finally sold it five years later for $49,000. Herring fishing alone was a 12 mil/year business. Completely destroyed.

It isnt an issue of extremeists, Anton's views are far more extreme than mine.

It is about 3 things.

1 There is always a group of people on the and right that are noisy. We make things happen.

2 There is a general bias against conservative positions.

3 There is a bias against anyone who doesnt look at the problems of America as a hypothetical discussion. Some of us look at life as a fight for survival and want to battle for our points. We dont want to write tasteful essays, we want to stand on the street and scream what we believe.

Swamp, which word is more toxic to a politician, "liberal" or "conservative"?

Also, explain imaginary numbers in 10 words or less.

<<<Swamp, which word is more toxic to a politician, "liberal" or "conservative"? >>>

Depends.

America hates the policies of liberals.

The media hates everything Conservative.

My point is just that it's hard to make the argument that there's a bias against "conservatives", but not "liberals" when you have Dem. politicians running from "their" term, but not the other way around...

Which isn't to say that there isn't a general liberal slant to the media...there is, even though I don't think it's as profound as you do, but there's also been such a successful conservative war that even though many people support "liberal" policies (i.e. Medicare)...they run from the term. It may not be a media bias...but it's a bias all the same.

A bias of the people isnt really a bias, its an opinion.

I think if people see the truth they will like Republicans.
5/3/2010 11:42 PM
No, it's a bias. The same way that prejudices and streotypes exist, biases exist that distort the way we perceive reality. Drop the act for a second...and think.
5/3/2010 11:48 PM
We're not talking about the values that define political perspectives...we're talking about the fact that a vast majority of people like policies that could fairly be called "liberal," but go running from the word. That's a bias, not an opinion.
