Why is everyone freaking out?  It's called a Championship hangover and some of the greatest teams of all-time, in all sports have gone through it.  I'm actually quite impressed by some of the fresh young talent that Chicago has brought up.  Kane and Toews have yet to really start lighting it up, the second line is the one that has been doing all the damage.  Give it some time.  And even if the hangover lasts all year this year, you can bet your *** they'll be  right in the thick of things next year.

Hossa and Sharp are role players? Seriously?

I expect that from idiots like cresten, but not you, Moy. You're smarter than that.

I agree they picked up some serious talent... problem is the vast majority of young players don't come out of the gate at 21 years old or younger like Toews and Kaner did. This season will continue to be a struggle but when the young guys start to be pros the hawks will be an elite team again.... with tons of depth.

And muddy.... I wasn't clear enough I guess.... hossa is not a role player obviously.... he's awesome.... their is just a huge dropoff after the top 8 players or so.... a huge talent drop off.

Fair enough.  For sure the talent drop-off is big.

you ******.  I just reread my statement.  I said Kane, toews, and Keith are 'superstars' and guys like Hossa, Sharp and Campbell are 'solid supporting cast'  -  I didn't call them role players.  Madden last season would be a good example of a role player imo.

relating it back to my favorite team -  unlike the hawks the flyers only have 1 superstar (Pronger) and 1 budding superstar in Giroux.  After that they have solid support in guys like Briere, Carter, Richie, etc.... flyer role players are guys like O'Donnell, Carcillo, Hartnell.  If you have better terminology for those 'solid supporting cast' players I'll be sure to use it moving forward.

btw - I'm sending you some new reading glasses so check the mail ;)

You're right, there is still a lot of season left to play.  Things will come together by playoff time.

Playoff's...........Playoffs...........Did you say PLAYOFF'S???  Hawks/Playoffs.......I doubt it!!

I doubt you'd put your money where your mouth is like nickhead did.

Viktor Stalberg, Jake Dowell and Bryan Bickell have been pretty good so far and I like their progression...Tomas Kopecky has great chemistry with Sharpie and Hoss and that makes him a potential top 6 forward...Troy Brouwer, along with Kane and Toews hasn't gotten going yet but is very capable of scoring 25+ goals, Dave Bolland when healthy is probably the best 3rd line centre in the league and Jack Skille was a top 10 pick and has loads of talent and upside. I think there's the potential for lots of depth the further along we go. I've said it before and I'll say it again, come playoff time they'll be ready to go and the infusion of "hunger" from the new blood will be an asset, not a disadvantage.
That being said, last year's team was the best Hawks team ever so there's no duplicating that. I just think that Championship teams who become complacent the following season are typically the ones that stay together, simply because the hunger and drive to win isn't as great.

Whats the Nickhead bet? Chicago is a decent team but i dont think they make it out of the conference..With the addition of Malhotra and Torres i think the Canucks have improved the 3rd line enough that they can oust the Hawks for the conference..im willing to make a wager Muddy..im too lazy to read posts from the past..lets make a bet ..im good for it ..check my past history

Nickhead and I bet on whether the Hawks would make the playoffs.  I said yes, he said no.  The bet was for $20 and NOT a WifS GC since neither one of us plays much on the site anymore.  I trust everyone until they welch on me like gregis did.

The superstars played like it last night and we got  BIG win.  Turco was excellent again and I loved that poke check on Buff in the shootout.  Q sent a message by pulling the team off the ice after 15 minutes of practice and it worked.  Gotta love a coach who knows what buttons to press.
