Just sent a question in to the administrators. I have a pitcher who is also a great fielding 1Bman. There doesn't see to be any way to use him as a defensive replacement as when you look at the drop box for Def replacements you can only see the position players.

Here is what I sent in:

=========================================================================================
If I have a pitcher who is fatigued from pitching, can he still pinch hit, pinch run, or be a defensive replacement at regular strength. And can he still do those things even if he is being rested as a pitcher.

I have a pitcher who is a great fielding 1Bman, and I want him to be a defensive replacement at 1B at times, but he did not pitch many innings so he is fatigued a lot. What is the story here?

Now I see that when you go to "defensive replacements" you can only enter a position player. What good is having a pitcher who can play 1B if you have no way to use him there?

Another problem. Looks like they took Honus Wagner and estimated his CS for each season based on the 2 years when they have that info. 1913 and 1915, when he was 39 and 41 years old respectively. So in 1908, which should be easily the highest salaried SS season (it's not), they show him with 52 SB and 41 CS. So he led the league in steals and, I assume, will only be like a 56% base stealer, as I don't see any stolen base ratings for any players.

So if you adjust for the shorter season, 1908 Wagner is the best WAR season for a SS at 11.5. He's tied with 1991 Ripken, who played 162 games while Wagner played 151 of 154. Next best is 1982 Yount, at 10.6. Somehow the sim has like 4 other SS seasons as higher salaried than 1908 Wagner. And neither of them is 1991 Ripken or 1982 Yount, which are not even top 10. They have 1969 Petrocelli as beter than those 2.

Okay, we coasted to a nice and easy 15-2 win over the Newbie scrappers. We put forth a 19 hit attack with 5 walks. Two homers from Cullenbine, and one each from Yogi and Speaker, who also had a double.

https://www.whatifsports.com/slb/Boxscore.aspx?gid=40493897&pid=1&pbp=0&tf=10

We pounded Alcantara for 10 hits and 9 runs (8 earned) in 6 innings. Meanwhile Roy Mitchell went all the way on a 5 hitter with just 2 runs allowed to raise his record to a sparkling 4-0. As I recall there were some early in this thread who predicted that my starters were gonna get pounded because their WHIP's. I think they did not take into account my excellent fielding.

We are now 16-13, although only in third place in this tough division.

This evening are home against the same team we just pounded. They go with '07 Hamels (0-0, 4.09) and we have Russ Ford (2-3, 4.47) again, who was very good last time out after almost being traded away before the game. Naturally with the complete game from Mitchell after 8 innings from Harris the game before, our bullpen is very well rested. Our backup infielder, however, Schofield, is down to 88 and needs a rest. Cochrane is slightly fatigued at 99, so he'll sit with Yogi doing the squatting.

The CS is estimated for the early seasons of mlb. To compare salaries, you need to download the spreadsheets that have the original and current salaries. The dynamic pricing nonsense (which was before the current admin took over) screwed up salaries.

Before dynamic pricing, 1921 Ruth (just under $18M) was the highest salaried position player.

A 4 run first inning was all we needed to complete a sweep of this home and home, final score 5-2, us. The big blow was a 3 run HR from Leach. Russ Ford goes all the way for the win, AND smacks a HR to boot. We got 11 hits and walked twice.

https://www.whatifsports.com/slb/Boxscore.aspx?gid=40496139&pid=1&pbp=0&tf=10

Ford went through their 3 big hitters (Machado, Judge, Goldschmidt) like a hot knife through butter in the top of the first. Then in the bottom of the frame we started with 3 straight singles for a run, but Stretch then grounded into a DP and we were in danger of getting just one run. They intentionally walked Buxton, and Leach made them pay dearly with a 3 run bomb to make it 4-0.

K, 6-3, and 1-3 in the top of the second as Ford was dealing. Best trade I never made. Bottom 2 and Russ Ford leads off with a home run to make it 5-0. They scored 2 in the 4th on ground balls, a walk, an error, and a bloop hit. That would be it for the scoring. Ford goes all the way with 100 pitches and allows just one earned run.

THREE STARS
1. Russ Ford - complete game win with just one earned run, and he homered.
2. Tommy Leach - three run home run.
3. Byron Buxton - 2 hits, walk, and a run scored.

Another home and home next, against the Larkspurs from the NL West. They come in at 15-15, tied for third place, 4 games back in their division. Their RD is +22, but they are just 3-7 in one run games. We are 17-13, still 4 games back in the AL Central, the toughest division, with a combined record of 71-49 (.592). They are home in Citizen's Bank in Philadelphia, another hitter's park as things start to even out.

1909 Earl Moore (6-2, 2.73) gets the call for them, with Jason Kendall catching. Excellent sure handed receiver, but just a C thrower. Number 3 starter Geoff Zahn is only back to 97 after throwing 125 pitches last time out. I was gonna give him an extra day, but apparently it's too late for that, as they won't let me change the starting pitcher. So I guess he will be going. Thurmond was gonna take Zahn's place, but he'll pitch the next game, as all 3 of my other starts will still be fatigued. Meanwhile Zahn will be on a shorter leash than usual.

Big hitters for my opponent so far are Trosky, Hafey and 1896 Tom McCreery from the dreadful Louisville Colonels. They finished 38-93 th year, 12th in a 12 team league, but McCreery was excellent with an OPS+ of 155.

By the way, I never said, but my team is being managed by Earl Weaver.

Team OPS up to .739 and team ERA down to 4.39.

We won just now, 8-7. I consider this to be the biggest win of the season so far. Because our winning streak had come to an end in the prior game, and the last time that happened we lost several games in a row. It was extremely important in my view to get right back to winning. A pretty solid star from Thurmond who was shaky, but went 6 innings allowing 3 runs. But we got to their starter, Jack Taylor, for 6 runs (5 earned) in 5.2 innings.

https://www.whatifsports.com/slb/Boxscore.aspx?gid=40500597&pid=1&pbp=0&tf=10

We led 4-0 after two, with an RBI single from Cochrane in the first, and then, helped by a bad throw from Kendall, we got 3 more runs in the second. A 2 RBI singe from Cullenbine and an RBI single from Boudreau. It stayed at 4-0 through 4 innings. They got 3 runs in the top of the 6th, the third coming on a nifty slide by Walt Dropo as he avoided Cochrane's attempted tag at the plate on Escabar's foulout to LF. Score now 4-3, us.

Bottom 6 we come right back with 4 HUGE runs. Yogi singled and with 2 out, Weaver sent up Agganis to bat for Thurmond, and Harry bloops a single. Phenomenal Smith replaces Taylor on the mound. Speaker walks to keep the line moving, and Cullenbine then walks to force in a run. Nap Rucker replaces Smith, and Boudreau greets him with a 3 run double to make it 8-3.

Setup man Jim Henderson comes in for the 7th and puts runners on first and second right away via singles. He induces a GIDP from Tierney, and then gets Marte to ground meekly to second to end the threat. In the 8th her gives up 2 runs right away on a solo HR from Dropo and and RBI double by Kendall, scoring Hafey, who he had hit in the back with a pitch. Weaver went out there, but decided to leave him in, and that worked out as Henderson bore down and struck out the next 2 batters before getting McCreery grounded out. 8-5 now.

Top 9 now, and John Hiller is on for the save with a 3 run lead. He starts out by striking out Trosky, but then gives up 3 straight hits for a run. He pops up Hafey, but Kendall then doubles home a run. Key play here as Speaker gets the ball in fast to hold Dropo at third. Weaver decides to walk Escobar and face the pinch hitter Lenny Webster, the backup catcher. Webster hits a shallow can of corn to CF that Speaker corrals to end the game. Hiller backed into his 5th save. You should not get a save IMO if you give up more than one earned run.

THREE STARS
1. Lou Boudreau - 3hits, 4 RBI
2. Roy Cullenbine - Hit, 2 walks, 2 runs, 3 RBI
3. Tris Speaker - Hit, 2 walks, 2 runs, and great fielding play in the 9th to keep the tying run from scoring.
