Lenard Hall, C, 6'11" 226 lbs., 3.4 GPA. Hall is going to be playing in what I call "the Wayne Davies role," (from a successful experiment at my USC Aiken squad) which is a semi-limited recruit with a high WE who will ride the bench during his freshman season, and who I'll then try to redshirt as a sophomore. If all that works out, he'll be a very strong player for me starting with his second sophomore season, as a reserve, and he'll eventually step into the starting job.

Robert Thompson, SF, 6'8" 210 lbs., 2.9 GPA. Thompson is the other star of the class, and he'll be starting this year. I really like his potential, particularly in terms of speed, athleticism, and rebounding. I'll be working his conditioning like crazy, probably 20-25 minutes per day, because he really needs to get his stamina up and it'll help get his speed/athleticism up to the 90/90 range. I love having SFs who are speedy and athletic, who can clean up the glass and pass well (not Thompson's strength, but it can be improved in time) and just be all over the court doing everything I need. Until I zeroed in on Fanelli as a possibility, Thompson was my clear favorite recruit. Flex/zone.

John Jordan, SG, 6'2" 204 lbs., 3.0 GPA. Jordan will be backing up Dukes this year for sure. I see him as a system player with potential to get polished in terms of skills and develop his body into a threat. I like his rebounding and just think he'll be a solid player for me. He completes my class. Triangle/zone.

I'm working off of the assumption that the defense rating truly doesn't matter in the zone, so I emphasized rebounding from my guards and SF instead. I wanted to get people who looked like they could become imposing physically even if they aren't just yet, and I wanted to get people with high WEs. In many cases, I saw a relatively low stamina rating as being a positive, since it will give me an excuse to emphasize conditioning for the player...also, stamina doesn't matter as much with the zone, and I will be probably running a slowdown all year.
We will be bad this year. I predict 10 wins. Still, I'm really playing for next year, when I think we'll have a solid chance to make the PIT or NT, and the year after, when I think we'll likely be ranked by the end of the season.

In the end, I spent all of my budget. I saw my situation calling for it, because I would only see 1/16th of anything , and wanted to wrap up Thompson. The Sim coaches who I was up against were Samford, for Jordan, and UNC Wilmington, for Thompson.
I did get in a recruiting battle for Fanelli, as it turned out, after I had had him considering me for a few cycles. Farleigh Dickinson...I sent the coach a site mail after I knocked him off the first time, telling him that while I thought it was possible for him to win (he had 6 scholarships and Fanelli was the only guy considering him, halfway through the pre-signing period), I was perfectly willing to go to the mat over the guy, and that it would essentially cost him 4 scholarship players. So he proceeded to pursue a bunch of easy signings and then came back. I had $26k at that point (I had $45k before he showed up the first time, and was actually glad that I got challenged earlier in the process than if I had been closer to signings), and I knocked him out a second time with another salvo of however much, maybe $10k. Then the next cycle I put in another $7k, I think, to keep him from getting back into the fight, and that was right before signings, and Fanelli signed that first cycle.
All told, I wasted a total of $10 in this recruiting season.
[edit, 9/11/2007:] the Farleigh Dickinson coach quit Allen after the season ran out. The team made the NT the following year under Simmy but is now floundering with a bunch of juniors in the 625 range.

Coach, I have some good news and some bad news regarding Jordan. Good news - the injury (severe ankle sprain) wasn't as bad as I first thought. Bad news - he won't be able to play at 100%.

My recommendation would be to sit him and let's see how he recovers. Putting him out there now could lead to another injury and I'm not even sure how effective he'd be.

I've bumped up the time for my other three guards who are playing, and I adjusted Edelman's role to include 3rd string SG. I hope Jordan isn't hurt for too long.

another seemingly-unlikely win. RPI and SOS came out today, and I won't be making the postseason at this rate, but I certainly didn't think that I should with a team this young.
